IS MORE PROTEIN BETTER?

Hello everyone, I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. I have been drinking the crystal sky nectar protein and I can get it down really well. I have been usung my barix mug it holds 32 ounces I have been puttin 3 to 4 scoops of protein powder in my mug mixing it with water and adding ice(one scoop is 23 grams of protein) so I have been getting anywhere from 69 to 92 grams of protein in 1 mugful. Is this a good thing or bad thing? I was told by my nut that I need at least 81 grams a day. Am I doing the right thing? Mae

Mabel~ Your body can only absorb 20 grams of protein at one time. Just add one scoop and save yourself some money! You can ask your doctor the question, but I think 20 grams is the maximum you can absorb, you just pee out the rest. Sorry.... I know it's not the answer you were looking for. Michelle

More protein is better, but spread out. Because you can only absorb about 30 grams of protein at a time. You'd do better to fill the mug with water, so you know you are drinking enough water, and then spread out drinking your protein over the course of the day. Hope you're feeling well and doing well!! Also remember, that the protein powder has calories. I know Nectar is low, 90 calories a scoop right? I agree space it out over time, I'm not sure of the science behind only being able to absorb so much protein at a time, but I've heard it also. However, we don't absorb only so many calories...you know. Angela

Mabel, More protein is better, but you do need to space it out...I'm not sure how far out you are, but you want to keep using a protein supplement for at least the 1st year, and but even as early as the 8th week out, you should be trying to get your protein from food sources too.... You are doing really well if you are getting in your 81 grams a day....Congrats....protein is a huge struggle for most people. I'm glad you found one that you like..... Kelly

Hi Mae, I was reading over the boards and thought I would say HI. Sounds like you got alot of good answers about the protien hope it help. I just wish I could stomach just ONE 6 oz glass of any kind of protein.
