NJ State Disability

Are you entitled to NJ State Disability whle recovering from WLS (RNY) surgery? What is the normal time out of work for this type of surgery? Thanks!

yup you are. i was out a month for mine. some ppl go back sooner, i guess it all depends. you must be out 14 days though at least, to collect disability from the state. my surgeon would have given me more time, but i felt i had to go back to work. good luck, jacki

I would imagine so -- I had a similar surgery (ovarian cyst) in 1999 and the state did give me benefits for the five weeks I was out.

YES u are, I am actually going back to work tomorrow and I was out for 2 months so u can collect it

I am self employed, but pay into state disability on my taxes, right? I need to call them, I might be able to collect some disability too? That is good news. I am taking off 1 month, maybe longer if they give me the ok now? I will call today! I never thought of this. Michelle

Yes you can I am currently on disability for my surgery. You can get paid for up to 12 wks. Speak to human resources at your job they will have the forms for you to fill. CB2
