Post Op Neck Pain-infor for newbies
Hi,
I had my pre-admission stuff done today. I asked the anestheologist (spelling..hmm?) about this "neck pain" I have been hearing about. He told me it is from the extra gas in your tummy. When you sit, gas rises...so little bits of gas trickle to the top of your trunk...and into your neck..its nothing to worry about and its certainly is not dangerous or permanent.
Just thought I'd share!
Take care,
Barb
Thanks Barb for that info, since I was one of those suffer's. It was worse than the incision pain, which at any given time was about "1" on a scale of 1-10. It never really hurt, the surgery really never hurt me, it was the small incidental things that hurt.
The IV in the back of my hand was #1 on my list of annoyances, but I never had any pain in the surgery site.
My #2 complaint was the neck and shoulder pain, which my surgeon said was a result of the way they have you on the table during the operation. He said all the gas pain should be gone after 3 days, the gas leaves within 72 hours of surgery, mine was from the positioning on the table. The chiropractor really helped me! She was a God send for me.
Good for you getting your PAT's done! You are one step closer to joining us on the "bench" over here, and the view---it's quite NICE!
God Bless~

Hi Michelle,
Glad to hear the chiro helped you. I have a disk in my neck that is degerating, so I was concerned about neck support, but they explained how they do it in AC so it will be just fine. I am so relaxed now that I went to see them. LOL I was a nervous wreck driving into the city, but they made me feel at ease now, so its all good..lol
My husband, who was no so supportive in the beginning (he was afraid I was going to die--silly man) is going with me to boot camp tomorrow...Yay! He's funny now, telling me I better do exactly what the doc tells me to. (he knows me all too well) We can openly talk about it now, where in the beginning it was difficult because I knew he was scared.
I just have to talk to them about the band-aids they use...you should see my arm!!!!!
Gotta leave for school now!
Take care,
Barbara
