Well, I'm Scheduled for 10/02/06 ! I just completed my pulmonary and my Psych is scheduled for 09/17/06.....But I'm worried I've lost a bit of weight, and it puts me at a BMI of 36.8 with comorbidities. I'm afraid if I loose anymore weight I will unqualify?....If anyone has any info on this please drop me aline .

Great, getting a date is a great thing! Congratulations!! As far as losing weight, that's great too. I don't think they can hold that against you. As a matter of fact, most surgeons encourage you to lose weight before the surgery, it makes their job easier on the table, and makes your recovery faster and easier. I did slim fast for the week before my surgery and lost 9 pounds, my doctor was thrilled that I took that upon myself to do. He said it made my liver shrink and made is so much easier for him to get around. He said people really hurt themselves when they gain weight before surgery, the words he used were "shooting themselves in the foot"! Check with your surgeons office, but I think what you are doing is GREAT! Michelle

hi madeline i have also lost alot of weight in the past 6 months -- my BMI is down to 36 even -- i have been nervous about the same thing -- when i go in for surgery on 10/6 will they cancel it -- but the way i look at it is -- if he doesn't do the surgery then he won't get paid and maybe he needs a new car or something -- i have to stay positive -- but i really do doubt that they will cancel the surgery -- it's only a gut feeling i lost 42 lbs due to medical treatments for Hep C did i say my surgery was 10/6?????????????? WOW that is under a month!!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck to ya roberta

I doubt that matters my BMI was similar to yours w/co morbs. I lost weigh and the surgery was still scheduled. I believe once the date is schedule they have authorization from the insurance company soooo everything is a go ahead! My surgeon suggest to continue loosing weight because it is beneficial for the surgery process every bit helps during surgery.

i have a date too! 10/18/06 -- i'm so excited, scared, anxious...?? My Doc recommends a liquid diet TWO weeks before the surgery. I know I am good to loose at LEAST 10 lbs b/c im so big! HOwever, he said the same things the others are saying, it shrinks your liver and also shrinks the fat surrounding the stomach area which makes live easier for doc and patient. I would love to hear how you make out...please, keep in touch and good luck!
