I received the best phone call yesterday...my surgeon called saying they had good news I was approved and they had scheduled my surgery for Thursday, September 7. I said that's next week...unbelievable. I am overwhelmed with joy. What advise can anyone give on how to prepare myself for this week for surgery? Also, what should I bing to the hospital? Thanks

Congratulations Natalie, I hope your Surgery goes well. I would suggest to go to the grocery store and get what liquid soft foods you will need. The doctors dietition should have given some kind of list. If not here are some ideas: broth, instant potatoes, diet jello, pudding baby food, ( I just could not eat it my self), apple sauce, no surgar added. Sugar free ice pops, oatmeal. For the hospital you may want to bring a house coat, Loose fitting close to leave in. My hospital provided slippers. If you are not into TV you may get board so I would bring books and magazines. Have a great Journey and use this web site. I found it very helpful I had my surgery on 01/20/2006. I got a lot of advice and support from here. Let us know how you are doing. See you on the loosing side. Best Wishes Tina, down 95 lbs

Hi Natalie. Congrats! I just had my surgery on Monday August 28th with Dr. Jean-Baptiste. He is a great doctor and the surgery went well. I came home the next day. To prepare make sure that you stick to the pre-op routine of having a liguid diet three days prior to the surgery. As far as the hospital stay, just bring a change of clothes and maybe a houserobe, although it is not really necessary. Make sure you walk after the surgery as much as possible. I had a lot of gas after the surgery that I had trouble passing, but the walking will help. There was some pain but it wasn't too bad. Good luck with everything!

Congratulations, Natalie! I'm sure you'll do very well. I brought my own toiletries to the hospital - although they did give me a few small things. I also brought my clothes to go home in, comfortable slippers for hall walking, and one set of pajamas and a bathrobe. Don't stock up on too much for when you get home. I still have a ton of broth and a lot of Jello - neither of them tasted good when I got home. Start trying protein now to see if you can find one you like - although, again, you may not like it later, but if you find one you like now, you may be ahead of the game. Follow whatever pre-op instructions they give you, and do your best to relax. We'll be praying for you! Anna
