Hello friends~ I went to get my nails/toes done today and I was wondering if I am allowed to have nail polish on in the operating room? I know when I had my c-sections 15 years ago I couldn't, but am hoping that might have changed? I even called the hospital from the nail salon, but no one could answer my question. Silly question I know, but I know you ladies would know the answer here! Love to all~ Michelle

Hi Michelle, Yes you can wear nailpolish now. It used to be they had to look at your nail bed to see if you were getting oxygen....now they put that finger clip on you for that. Yay! When are you scheduled for surgery?

Barbara~ Thanks for the reply! I am so happy! It's the little things that make me feel safe I guess, something as small as being able to wear nailpolish will make me feel as "normal" as possible. I have had my nails painted every day since I was about 13 years old! My surgery is this Thursday, I am having LAP RNY with Dr. Trivedi @ Hackensack. Michelle Brennan

Check with your surgeon. I had nail polish on for my EGD before my actual surgery, and they got a nurse to lend me some nail polish remover to take it off before they would do my procedure. The guy said something about it messing up his pulse oximeter or something.

Well Ladies...... I called my surgeons office just a few minutes ago and was told NO nail polish on fingers OR toes. This is Dr. Trivedi's policy I guess. So, in case any of you have an upcoming surgery with him.... remove all color from your fingers and toes Michelle

Barbara~ Don't worry about it at all, I was just trying to get a general feel of what most doctors expect with the polish. I will be wearing my nail and toe polish to the hospital, and bringing cotton and nailpolish remover in my overnight bag..... I will remove it as soon as they ask me to. You never know, maybe the anesthesiologist won't care about nail polish? I will take it off as soon as they ask Maybe they won't care? I will have all my supplies with me, even my polish so I can re paint as soon as I am coherent! Love, Michelle Brennan

Hello Julie~ Thanks for the compliment about not looking old enough to have teenagers! How was your surgery and recovery? I am having a very emotional time with this liquid diet, I am on my second full day of just slim fast. It's harder than I thought it would be :-l I think it's the not eating combined with the nerves for the surgery, it's a double whammy right now. I know it will pay off during surgery, but it is not easy right now, tomorrow will be better. Michelle

Roberta! Can you believe it, how fast did this go? It has gone fast, well slow in the beginning, but now the days are flying by...... which means your surgery is getting closer too! I am so excited. The moods are so many, I don't know what I am feeling, most of the time it's excitement...... the other time I am just HUNGRY..... wishing I could EAT! But, this too shall pass How are you feeling? How is your treatment progressing? Michelle
