I'm Home :-)
Hi there! I had my surgery on Tuesday, and came home last night. I feel absolutely great - I have no pain, and have been off of the pain meds since early Wednesday - woohoo!
I've been up walking around a lot. They put me on complete bedrest all of Tuesday - I mean, bedpan and everything - but once they let me up, I couldn't get out fast enough.
I'm down 11 pounds - but of course, on clear liquids, who wouldn't be? The difference is, I can't imagine wanting anything other than the liquids right now.
They want me to do 4 ounces an hour - but so far, only tea tastes good, so I stocked up on decaf tea bags.
If things continue to go well, I may sneak in one last trip to FL before my kids go back to school
Thanks for all of the advice you guys have given me - I really appreciate it!
Anna
Good luck with your surgery, Tommy! I don't really have any tips, but I followed the rules and did everything by the book. I know the woman in the bed next to me was eating and drinking everything they brought her at meal time, and that was WAY too much stuff to try to get in.
I'll keep you in my thoughts that it goes just as smoothly for you. I'm not deluding myself about being out of the woods, but it certainly is a relief not to feel as poorly as I expected to feel.
Hey, Denise!
Dr. Nusbaum was wonderful! He was so nice and kind, both before the surgery and after. He left for vacation after my surgery, but took the time to reach me by phone to find out how I was and talk to be about things.
The hospital itself was pretty nice. The staff was very nice, although not overly attentive. I waited more than 40 minutes to get someone to help when my IV alarm went off - and that was after I paged the nurse, and the doctor seeing the woman next to me went and complained that she couldn't talk to her patient.
I have also only been in the hospital to have my children, and I've never had to share a room, so that was odd. And there was no shower in the room - you have to go across the hall to shower - another weird thing.
They have really nice chairs in the rooms - wide and comfortable for any size hiney. My husband loved them. And the food service lady - Colleen - she was such a doll. She brought me coffee on my first tray and asked me if I drank coffee. When I said no, she made it a point to run down and get me a cup of tea - and did it again the next meal when they gave me coffee again.
We thought the parking was a bit high - something in the range of $7 a day - but we're from down here in South Jersey, where hospital parking is still free
But I am 100% certain I made the right decision in choosing Dr. Nusbaum. I would not hesitate a minute to recommend him for this surgery. Hey - he gave me souvenirs! I got a photo collage of my internal organs before and after the surgery!!
