Sleep Study Results Are In
So, I call the doc's office and they tell me I have a very MILD case of sleep apnea, (Good thing) but they still want me on a cpap before surgery - the bad part is, I have to go back for the 2nd night, so they can test me w/the cpap and get my settings... appararently, I should have gone the night after the study, but someone screwed up... I wouldnt have even known if I didnt call the doc's office myself - now 2 weeks later... when were they planning on letting me know... aside from that being the absolute worst night from hell.... hardly any sleep... it was awful... I'm just upset about having to wear that gear to bed every night... I understand it's not pretty and it's a thing wrapped around your head, and a mask that covers your face and nose? this sucks. But worst part is, I can't get in for the study til the end of august... then I go on vacation a week and half later, come back sept. 18th, and my surgery is supposed to be oct. 18th... i dont want them to postpone my surgery because of this. by the time they do the results of this study, set me up with the home healthcare peeps,,, it wont leave me much time actually on the cpap before surgery.... this sucks.
Hi..you are not alone!!! I just went thru the same thing...July 2nd went to Freehold for the first test, and the second (fitting one) was in Egg Harbor this last Tuesday. You know, you dont' have to get that awful mask....I am getting some tube-y thing...not so bad! looks and feels better than the mask!!! The worst thing was that I haven't slept since that 2nd study.....just my nerves I guess. I have to wear the tube for 2 weeks prior to surgery...I should hear this week as to when it will be delivered!! Usually, they only take a few days to get your mask...so you'll have plenty of time before surgery. Or, call them and explain your date and tell them to put a rush on it!!
Best wishes, let me know how you make out!!
why not do a search on sleep apnea in google and learn about it in detail and you might be surprised to learn that how serious it is, even mild sleep apnea can evenually kill you, it raise your blood preasue, can be the cause of your obesity, it is the cause of sids in infants. in is the cause of heart failure in the recovery room for those who are undianosed or untreated preop. and the anesitist is unaware of the condition, the brain has blood oxygen and carbondyoxide sensors just like your automobile emission controls, and gets used to a level for you, but in a hospital that is enriched, and you being normally low, your brain says your normal, dont need to breath, so u dont, and crash. thats why its so important, get the machine, and comply, and dont stop until you have a doctor and sleep study say u can, not just because u stop snoring. been on it for 15 years before i was obese,
