HELP!! Weight lose before surgery?
Hi Everyone,
I have a question and I was wondering if anyone out there could help me . I had my consultation back in Feb/March of 2005 since that time I have gained 11 pounds they told me that I have to lose 6 pounds before surgery. I have been eating nothing but salads. Does anyone know of anyone being turned away for surgery because of not losing the weight. I am so nervous on top of being scared. Can anyone help me? Mae
Personally I was only told 10 days before surgery to lose weight and they never said how much - how scary is that? I lost 6 lbs in 7 days (without exercise because physically I couldn't) and that was fine with my doctor. I had the same fear. I was told by the staff if you make an attempt and even lose 2 lbs, that would be fine. Your body does need calories to burn calories though so don't go too low - try eating something besides salads.
good luck mae!
Heather
Hi Heather,
Thank you so much you made me feel so much better. It has been stressing me out so much. I had a normal dinner last night I had some porkroast , a sweet potatoe, a piece of corn on the cob and boy it tasted so good. I keep having that fear that they are going to say you didnt lose that 6 pounds and they are going to postpone my surgery. I am so excited but scared at the same time. I cant wait to join the losing side. Thank you so much. Mae
Hi Heather,
My surgery is the 26th of this month. I'm now on a liquid diet until then. I eat 2-3 8oz low cal,low fat surgar free protein shakes. One cup of chicken, beef, or veg broth, about twice a day, and a cup of jello, and pudding both sf,and ff. My surgeon expects me to lose about 15 by the 26th.
Try going liquid for a few days, this is the diet given to me by the surgerons nutritiontist.
Take Care,
Mark
