Sipping during meals

Hi everyone, I was reading the book by Dr. Simpson, Weight Loss Surgery: A Lighter Look at a Heavy Subject and came across a section in the RNY eating for life part. He states that there is a growing body of evidence that sips of water with your meal will not wash out the food in your stomach and that may be a myth that is slowly leaving the weight loss surgery literature. A survey of 30 patients *****ached their goal weight with RNY and maintained that for at least two years showed that all of them sipped some liquids with meals. Of course this wasn't in the first 12 weeks following surgery but I wanted to know if any one who is post op beyond 12 weeks did sip some fluids with meals and how that went for you. I am very encouraged by this finding and have emailed Dr. Simpson himself to find out if any further research has been discovered. I really need to sip something from time to time depending on what I eat. By the way that book is really a good book to have on hand, it answers a lot of questions and made me feel more at ease. Thanks to the Toms River support group *****commended it!! One important fact was that this surgeon said that you will probably not feel like yourself for the first 12 weeks and boy is he right. I'm glad I read the book. Amy

Hi Amy, I have not read the book nor ever heard to the doctor. But I don't think the issue is really wahting the food out of your stomach as much as it is not being able to get all the food in you need to get the proper nutrition.
