Bachelor Type Nosh
Hey okay I know Im not a bachelor... but I AM a most definite cardcarrying, certifiable, dyed in the wool REDNECK (which is sort of like a unrepentant permanent bachelor in ways.)
Anyhow..
Bachelor Eggs:
Stuff Needed
1- 9 or 12 hole cupcake or muffin tin
1 can non stick spray
Eggs.
Oven at 350 degrees.
Preparation Evolution:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees, spray muffin tin with non stick spray. Crack eggs into the muffin tin (you dont have to use all the holes just make however many you want, extra can be stored in a covered container in the fridge but beware of rubbery eggs)
Anyhow... spray tin, crack eggs, put in 350 degree oven for 13-15 minutes (more or less time depending on how you like your eggs, slightly moist or dern dry) I have a bad case of peek-at-eggs-every-4-or-5-minutes syndrome, so I am a little hazy on the exact time.
Eggs are done when you think they are looking cooked enough. Take a table knife and trace around the outside of the egg in each muffin tin hole, invert onto a clean plate, consume in front of the TV (preferably watching our regional Game show favorite.... discovery channels CASH CAB - 6pm - 7pm on the Discovery channel, two half hour programs in a row doncha know.)
Variation: You can crack the egg into a shallow cup and beat the heckva out of it if you prefer scrambled eggs.
Yields: I think this yields something like 8 grams protein per egg? Not sure havent looked what an egg is. It yields compact little egg "pies"... and it is a good way to prepare and go out into the living room until the timer goes off so you dont miss any Cash Cab.
"solemn Timmy nod"
Remember that you CAN refridgerate the leftover eggs, but they dO gEt a lItTle RuBbeRy ...yeah. Personally they bounce better after being refridgerated, but thats just my observational stance at this time.
Drinkable Yogurt
Materials Needed
2 cups Skim Plus Milk - 22 grams protein (or regular milk - 16 grams protein)
3 low sugar 6 or 8oz Berry Yogurts of your choice (15-24 grams protein- depending)
1/4 cup frozen or fresh Berries (preferably same flavor as the yogurt)
2 cubes ice
Blender
32 or 64 oz hellva large mug or 64 oz empty juice bottle to serve/store in
rubber spatula to clean the junk out afterward.
Construction Evolution
Add all the stuff in no particular order to a blender. CAP the blender (this is more important than it may seem, fail to do this even once qualifies you for a one way trip to cleaning doghouse)
Blend- at first on low speed and then high speed. Blend until the mysterious feeling that hey its done hits you. Stop blending.
Pour into serving or storing container. This is a way to turn especially unpalatable yogurt (hey some yogurt is good, like Stop and Shop I really like that, other store brands are like... doody)into something edible.
I can consume this (yields about 40 ozs give or take depending on yogurt size) over a couple hours, and its a welcome change of pace, something different, yet protein yielding. Again, consume while watching Cash Cab.
Yields: the whole mixture is about 38 -58 grams protein, milk + yogurt.. depending.
Homemade Meat Jerky
Materials Used
Thin Sliced meat
flat cookie sheets lined with foil (hey who likes clean up) or other flat foil lined pans
170 degree oven
Operational Plan:
Obtain your favorite thin sliced meat. Meat cut into small strips or circles particularly lends itself to this endeavor. I like pepperoni slices, or we buy the bulk (about 2 pound size) canadian bacon in a pack at Sams Club. I have also used thin sliced luncheon meat, or meat that I have sliced thin from other sources. NOTE: The meat should be pre cooked in some way.
Lay flat without overlapping as much of it on a pan as you can cram on. Remember to use the foil, you dont need any no stick for this endeavor. Place in your oven on the lowest setting (for us that is 170 degrees). Set a timer for 2 or 3 hours, and then turn the meat over (this is optional I do it but its not mandatory.
After about six hours, the meat should be brittle, and not bend but snap in to when pressure is applied to bend it. Some meat is better left longer (to where its somewhere between shoe leather and brittle)
Part III: Consume with gusto while watching ...(you guessed it) CASH CAB.
Yield:
This yields from 3-8 grams of protein, depending on the size of the meat slices dried this way. For example, the Canadian bacon rounds are 5 grams, the smaller pepperoni slices average 3-4 grams protein.
Its a set-it-leave-it kinda cooking evolution, you can do this on days where you are going to be around the house , not doing much, just smelling the drain in the sink -sorta-days.... and its a low maintenence method of creating your own jerky on the cheap.
