can anyone fill me in on what their surgeons required as far as a pulmonary consult. i went to the pulmonary doc today and he wants a pulmonary function test, a chest xray(that makes sense to me) and a sleep study for sleep apnea, which i have no clue why that is necessary. anyone care to share their experiences.. this stuff is making me nuts.................... jacki

Jacki, Going under anesthesia can be life threatening if you have undiagnosed sleep apnea. Alot of obese folks suffer from apnea and dont even know it. I experienced this problem, first hand. Not fun. You can check my profile for the blow-by-blow. Be Well, -A.J.

thanks so much for your quick response. the thing is, i do not have sleep apnea i just had some surgery in april, had anaesthesia and was fine. plus over the last 6 years ive had a few other surgeries all with anesthesia and there was no problem at all. i think the doctor wanting this is overkill. i will have to talk to my surgeon and see what he thinks, im really against medical overkill, i work for doctors and i see this all the time. thanks again, for your post and continued good luck to you and your family jacki
