Pre- Op Question

I was wondering for the pre-op testing what is done. I'm having the lap band done in july. Thanks Patience

hi patience yes, you will have to check with your surgeon and insurance -- i have Aetna Qpos and i had to do a 6 month dr supervised diet for them -- for my surgeon i will need clearance from a Cardiologist and Pulmonary --plus the regular pre-admission testing of Blood and Chest X-Ray don't worry and just go with the flow -- it goes faster than you think take care roberta

I have BCBS and I have to have bloodwork, a chest x-ray and EKG. Plus a letter of medical clearance from my doctor right before the surgery, I guess that's just a physical and looking at the results of all of the above? Call your surgeon, he will know what tests he is ordering for you. Michelle

Patience: I had RNY in November 2004 with Dr. Bilof's associate - Dr. Nusbaum. The are the *best*. I am not sure what the requirements are for lap band, but the ladies at the office can answer any questions you have. Don't be afraid to ask.

I had my surgery with Dr. Bilof on 04/12/06 for the LAP RNY. I don't know if the test is the same for the lap band, but I had to take a Venous-Doppler test that checks for blood clots, I had to have an endoscopy which is when a camera is in your stomach to make sure that there is no infection in the stomach. I also had to have blood taken as well as having a stress test and of course there is the pre-admission testing which is done at St. Barnabus. The day before your surgery you will be required to start fasting as well. Best Wishes, Carla

Patience: Pre-op testing included a venous doppler, some X-rays and blood work. This is in addition to the testing I underwent prior to insurance approval.

The pre-admission testing consist of urine and blood work. Chest X-rays and EKG to check heart.
