Has anyone here from New Jersey had bariatric surgery using Horizon BC/BS NJ Plus insurance? What doctor did you use? Did they cover the surgery 100%? Also, I'm interested in maybe going to Barix Clinic for my (probobly Lap-band) surgery. Has anyone here used their NJ Plus insurance there? Is it in-network? I have called the insurance people and they don't claim that any of the doctors at the Barix Clinic are in-network but some nice person emailed me and said that her Barix clinic surgery was covered 100% at Barix. Sheesh. You'd think you could call your insurance company and say "hey, please give me a list of the in-network surgeons doing bariatric surgery" but they claim they "don't have that iniformation." Yeah, right. Any information anyone might have regarding their experiences with NJ Plus insurance would be great. Thanks, AJ

hi AJ i had no luck calling blue cross, although i have a diff bc plan than u do. your best bet is to call Barix and ask them if they participate with your insurance and then when u get the name of a surgeon that says he participates, then check back with BC by name and county of the doctor. they were clueless when i asked about bariatric surgery. also i do insurance authorization work for a doctor as my job, and usually NJPlus has good coverage for most things. so keep on plugging away, im just starting the process myself, havent applied to the insurance companies yet, im doing my psych evaluation and support group stuff first. take care, mystic aka jacki

I have BC/BS NJPLUS as well. I had Lap Band done at Fares Surgical in Robbinsville. I highly recommend them. The staff is great and the doctors really take their time with you. I was originally denied but appealed and won. I didn't have to pay anything for the surgery. Also, fills are covered as well. You have to get a referral from your primary to see the surgeon. They will then give you a list of pre-op appointments you need to make. Take that list to your primary and have them write out all the referrals. All you pay is your co-pay for each visit. Good luck to you! Jenn Y. banded 11/3/05 254/221/205/under 200

AJ- I have the same info to offer as Jenn. She was my inspiration. I had Aetna as primary and they don't cover lap band generally so I went to NJPLUS, my secondary, and they approved me right away. I alway went to Fares surgical. Good luck. Gerry

Hey, I am in the processs of the Lap Band journey. I am going to CHRIAS Dr Irgau and Dr Wynn, they are only 20 minutes from the Commodore Barry Bridge. They do there surgeries at Christiana Hospital and St Francis Hospital, both really close. Check out the Delaware OH Messgage board and you will hear alot of success stories. Delaware sounds far, but it is not it is in north Delaware and the Pennsylvania State line. Let me know if you need any further info. Goood luck Dave

I had that insurance when I had RNY and had no problems getting approved, and had 100% coverage. I even had serious complications that were completely covered. My friend had her procedure at Barix and it was covered in full. Check with them....
