Hiya Eddie... welcome to the NJ board here on Obesity help. ! My name is Timmy Ray, I am 42, I live in Jackson NJ and I had the LAPROSCOPIC RNY about 18 months ago. By the way... if your surgeon will do it, and is proficient at it... I HIGHLY recommend the Laproscopic. NO (or very very little) likelyhood of any hernia with the Laproscopic, and you have little "bullet hole" type scars vs a big long one. recovery is faster.... and its just less invasive. Basically those that said "it is up to whether your surgeon is good at THAT type of surgery" are 100 percent correct. Sorry, I saw but didnt get a chance to post to your question from a day or two ago, dude : ) How close are you to Toms River, or Lakewood? We have a group of really fun, enthusiastic people that get together twice a month, (first Friday at 7pm in Toms River, and the THIRD Thursday each month at 7pm in Lakewood, NJ). Its a group for people who have HAD the surgery... or who are GOING to have the surgery... or who are RELATED to those peoples. It is a fun group, and very very supportive and encouraging. And.. we have all "been there" so a person doesnt feel silly or embarrassed about asking questions about the whole process. We have a couple people that come down from Piscataway, and one or two that come up from Atlantic City. And lots of folks from all over that come to either one or both nights : ) Its a GREAT group, we have Jack, John, AJ, (myself, Timmy Ray), Michael, several other guys, and a HOST of really great ladies , its a really good group of people that are very supportive, and have a lot of knowledge about surgery, life in general, and tricks and hints about this whole surgery process. I have read your posts, dude, and I think you would really like the group. So.. Eddie, you are formally invited to come to one of our groups. Are you anywhere close enough to come visit and check us out sometime? I hope so.... either way, Welcome to the New Jersey message board, if you have any specific questions about surgery, life before and after, or anything else, feel free to get in contact, okay? Both my wife (Sandi) and myself had the RNY surgery, I am 18 months out and she is two years out. I am down 210 pounds, and my wife is down 150 and at goal weight. I still have 150-200 pounds left to goal, and I still lose weight slowly. In fact I MET my wife on the Obesity Help Singles board (here on Obesityhelp.com) and moved to New Jersey a year ago, got married, and now I is here : P Anyhow... again.. welcome. My email is [email protected] and my phone is 732-278-1940 its a Cingular Cell, and I have unlimited long distance from the home landline phone (Optimum Voice doncha know) so just holler my friend if you need anything. Eddie... this surgery is a tool. I started at 601 pounds, the day of surgery. They did it laproscopically, my surgery was in Iowa in the midwest, I still have the record (woo woo woo) for the BIGGEST guy to every have laproscopic surgery at that hospital in Waterloo/Cedar Falls Iowa (Satori Hospital for those writing a book : PPP) Be encouraged. It is a life changing experience, if you have the surgery you wont EVER be sorry man. I started originally with a 104 inch (yes thats not a typo... 1-0-4 inches) waist.. now I have a 54 inch waist. I started with an 8 or 10 x size, now I am a 2 or 3x xxl or xxxl size in shirt and shorts. I can ride in a plane seat on an airliner, ride amusement rides, walk up and down stairs, walk distances, I am no longer diabetic, my sleep apnea has improved, I no longer have high blood pressure, and I have tons more energy. PLUS, I am able to do allllllllllllllll sorts of things..... better and easier : ) So...Eddie.....Dont be shy my man, questions are good so ask if you got them. : ))) Nice to meet you Sir, have a super day, and Godspeed in your search for surgery and the whole process : ) Take Care Timmy Ray

Timmy, whats happinging? Thank-you for the BIG WELCOME!!! I really read ALL that you had to say! Sounds great! Congradulations to you & your wife on the weight loss!Im sechualed for RNY surgury VERY SOON, less than a month! Im definatley doing it BUT I hope Im getting the right surgury.meaning RNY or DS.DS sounds really cool because you can eat more & what you want & still lose,BUT my doctor scared me with horror stories of having multiple BW movements all day& the chance of really bad BO & bad breath & theres NOTHING to treat this HE SAYS.So of course I chose to go with the RNY.BUT DS patients give me feedback that those things are NOT TRUE.Thats about the only thing Im stuck on.As far as your Toms River meeting...Id love to come...& will one day.I dont have a Drivers Licence so it will be hard right NOW,but It should be restored shortly.I have your numbers & I thank-you again for all the help.If anything urgent comes up...I will call. Thanks! Eddie

Dear Eddie, Dr. I & Dr. V did my surgery last June 28th. I was one week shy of my 64th birthday. They were wonderfully skilled and professional and what I liked best is that they did the surgery TOGETHER as a team. I have lost 103 pounds so far, my diabetes is almost gone, my blood pressure is NORMAL and I feel like a new person!! My friends and family have been MOST supportive and complimentary. My e mail address is [email protected] if you want any more info. BTW Englewood Hospital is THE BEST!!!! The staff, nurses, and EVERYONE were excellent!!! Good luck, Betsy
