Anyone want to go Dancing After the Meeting?
My favorite local band, "Jody Joseph and the Average Joes" are playing at The Claddagh in the Highlands this Friday night, June 2nd. I was hoping to go after the OCWLS meeting at Community Medical Center. Does anyone want to join me for some dancing?
Let me know - perhaps we can get a group together.
Nannette
hi Nannette,
My name is June and I was born and raised in Queens, NYC. I now live in Matawan, NJ and I had lap lap band surgery on 5/3/06 by Dr. Ferzli (SI, NY) at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. I am 5'4" and my pre-op weight was 226. I lost about 15 lbs. right away and am currently staying there (give or take 1-2 lbs.). I realize that my type of surgery takes a long time and you don't really start losing until your second or third fill (haven't had any yet) and you lose at a much slower rate than RNY surgery patients.
I read your entire profile and I must say I laughed and I cried. I am sorry about the loss of your beloved husband, but I see that you are about to embark on that journey again!
I truly wish that I could join you for dancing, as I LOVE TO DANCE! My weight has never stopped me from doing so either. It is excellent exercise and also has kept me young (I am 57 yrs old). I work at night and also on Friday night, so I cannot join you. However, if you ever go on a Saturday or even a Sunday, please keep me in mind. I would love to be your friend and you inspire me to lose this weight.
Yours,
June
Hey June - thanks for the props and glad to meet you. Yes, my profile reads like a soap opera I know -- but that is my life!
As you know, I am from Brooklyn, and in my wild youth spent many a night in the ER at Lutheran Medical Center (or Maimondes)! LOL Moved to Toms River, NJ in 1992.
I have always loved dancing too, regardless of my weight. Started going to Curves at 5 weeks post op and always danced while on the recovery boards -- kept it fun for me. In any case, I'll keep posting for any of our "dancing get togethers" and perhaps you can join us.
I help facilitate the Ocean County Weight Loss Surgery support groups that meet regularly in Lakewood and TOms River and we are probably going to organize a walk from Obesity in September on a Saturday -- perhaps you can join us for that! Keep in touch, and good luck -- we have several lapbanders in our group, and though they do lose slower, over the long time, the weight loss is just as signficiant so don't let it get you down!
Hugs,
Nannette
Hi June !
My name is Timmy Ray, I am 42, married to a fellow RNY post surgery person (the lovely and talented Sandi J : )))
I read your post with interest. Did you know we have two OTHER support groups, one very small one that meets weds (the 2nd weds every month) in Manalapan, and a good sized one that meets the Third Thursday of every month, in Lakewood, NJ?
This plus the first Friday Group in Toms River : )
Its for the most part the same group of people, full of energy, all either post surgery or those looking to have the surgery. A nicer bunch of genuine, decent folks you will never meet, we have a wide variety of ages and interests, all bound together by support, encouragement and goodwill.
If those nights are not good for you, we will ALSO be having social activities on the weekends, such as walks on the boardwalk at the Jersey shore, proposed Movie nights, etc.
You seem very personable, and I thought you would really enjoy our group of pre and post surgery folks, you would really like our group : ))) I enjoyed your post and I wanted to introduce myself to you, and welcome you to the New Jersey messageboard. Let me know if I can encourage you or answer any questions you may have.
Have a super day, and godspeed : )
Timmy Ray
hi Timmy Ray,
And thank you for your response and interest! (does Sandy know we are meeting like this? LOL)
Nannette did mention the Thursday meeting in Lakewood. Maybe I am wrong, but I think both Lakewood and Toms River and too far for me, especially since I work at night (why I couldn't go dancing on Fri night) and have to be on my way from Matawan by about 10pm. However, I was not aware of the Manalapan meeting. Please tell me more about that one.
Also, any other activities on the weekend (Sat, Sun or even Mon for me) I would welcome an opportunity to join. Please either keep me posted or tell me where to look for them.
I will be frequenting the message board (usually when I am at work, which is graveyard) so see ya there! Keep in touch.
Yours,
June
