question for the ladies
Hello- I was wondering if anyone has had problems with their period after surgery- I am close to 12 mos post op- and have not had my period for at least 2 mos- before surgery I was always 28 days- never failed- I have taken 4 tests and all have come back negative-I also feel as if I am getting it but here I am and nothing
I am beyond my goal wt of 150- and hang out around 140-145- any ideas? I do have an appt set up with my gyne- but thought I would ask all of you? Thanks in advance
Sometimes; just being on a very low calorie diet can cause your period to not come. The body is protecting itself against pregnancy because, from a nutritional standpoint, your body has suffered a trauma, and you are just balancing everything out...Though I wouldn't count on not getiing pregnant if thats not in your plans.
I would absolutely see a gyn about this...Just because its important that our bodies function properly. You didn't say how old you were, either. Depending on your age, you might just be starting menopause. (Iam guessing you are not in that age group though or you wouldn't be concerned).
Good luck....

Hellooooo
(Timmy says in a falsetto voice,
trying to pretend to be a lady,
Attempting to ""blend in",
but due to his hairy legs ............
..............He fails to pass as "one of the ladies")
Ok Ok OKAY... I am not a lady... but thought I would chime in (I have five sisters, and have heard it all so unfortunately I know more about the girl stuff than I wish to be knowledgable about....
Ladies... estrogen, the female hormone, is stored in your body and in your system, primarily in FAT cells.
So..... when you have gastric bypass surgery, and drop weight suddenly, and often add muscle tissue... and lose fat tissue at the same time, you DRASTICALLY alter the ratio of muscle to fat, or Fat to other tissue in your body.....
This dramatically alters the amount of Estrogen you have available in your body, and in your cells...
This "lack of available estrogen" can cause
-missed or delayed periods
-lack of periods for several months
-shorter periods between periods.
-increased..ummm... well you are more romantically inclined?
-DECREASED.... ummmm well you are less romantic?
(okay... red faced I am now... so ending this post...)
and other such type of effects from the change in hormones...
The Good news is... that after 18 months to 2 years, your body adjusts, stepping up hormone production slightly, or adjusting to less hormones in your system... or BOTH... so it tends to be less of an issue after a couple years post surgery.
And that is all I know about that....PERIOD..
(run timmy...RUN !)
Hugs to all
