Excercise - Curves - Treadmill...

Can anyone tell me if they've been to Curves and if they can accomodate someone pre-surgery size? I need to get myself on an excercise regimen before surgery but I just am leery about walking into a Curves and finding out their machines can't accomodate me. I thought about buying a treadmill - but the standards have a max capacity of 300lbs- where can I find a decent priced one that accomodates 450+? Or does anyone have one they want to sell? I need help.

Michelle, Each Curves is privately owned so the machinery may not be exactly the same at each club. I was uncomfortable at Curves not because of the machinery but because of the "change each minute" regimen. I joined a standard full service health club in my town. It's similar to Bally's or Golds. Good luck in your excersize hunt. Robin in Mercer County 318/280/209/150?

Thanks Robin Im embarrassed to join a regular gym at this size - thought that would come when I dropped 1/2 of me! But I heard Curves was a good environment for someone like me. But my concerns are the machinery, getting in/out, etc.

I have no experience with Curves, and don't have a treadmill to sell, but why don't you call the local curves and ask? Can't hurt, it's anonymous, and if you don't like what you hear, nothing lost... You can always just go for neighborhood walks, or go through shopping malls, for a walking program to get in shape if you don't like what you hear at curves. You're a smart lady to look into exercise pre-op! Helps to be in good shape for surgery. Irene

I purchased my traedmill at LIFE FITNESS in Delaware, but they are all over the country. Just check out the websites. They get expensive when you get the better (Heavier) ones. I paid $2500.00. Mine goes up to 400 pds and I try to run and walk fast, it takes a beating and real quiet though. Another tredmilll that takes on heavyweight is a LANTUS again $2000.00- $3000.00

I would say check the hospital where you will have your surgery done at or ask your surgeon for advice. Most hospitals who deal with bariatric surgery have Health and Wellness Centers and they have the equipment that accomodates a heavier size. Also, there will be people there who are in the same boat as you are so you won't feel out of place. Good Luck, Carla

I did my own excersing in the beginning. Curves is great once the weight comes off because it helps a lot with muscle toning. Call your local Curves - some of them might have classes as well.

I started exercising at curves about 5 weeks after surgery -- still weighed over 300 pounds even then -- Curves was awesome and a great fun start to exercising. Most Curves will let you "try out" once or twice their workout before you sign on the dotted line and pay your money. Why not give it a try, then decide. Good luck, Nannette
