Aetna, HMO ????

HI I was wondering how long of a wait there was 4 a approval 4 wls from Aetna HMO. My Dr. put the request in on 04/26/06 & I still have'nt heard anything at all.

I fulfilled all there requirements, and when it went in, it took a good 6 weeks to get approval, which I just got on Monday.

Hello Cassandra, If you've done all the requirements, six months supervised diet, visit with a nutritionist, psychiatrist, PCP medical notes, then it probably would take about 4-6 weeks. I had the surgery on 04/12/06. It took about a month for Aetna to approve me before I received my good news. Carla

Its not my insurance plan, but people in my support group had slow waits for approval from them; and a good number of initial rejections. The initial rejects were ultimately approved after patients did 6 months of supervised medical diets; letters from PCP's documenting 2 years of weight loss efforts, psych evaluations, and evidence of other medical porlbems. Good luck and be persistent....Sometimes it pays to be the squeaky wheel. It also seems important to get the name of the person you speak to; and then ask to speak to them every time you call. Be that person's regular 10 am call and they discover a need to be responsive to you, that is as long as you are their pleasant 10 am call. Kelly
