My thoughts are there is NEVER a perfect day to start the 5DPT. It'll suck at least for the first couple days regardless of what is or isn't going on.
If you really want to do it you just need to commit to a day and DO IT!
Mine happened to work out well for me b/c I was off from work on my Day 1 and its been easier than I expected to do Days 2-5 at work. Maybe easier. Busy so not enough time to worry about the foods I can't eat.
Although, my "bad timing" is I am taking my girls camping tonite so there will be S'Mores made and I can't not have one of those, can I?!? Sigh...

Good point Kelly, I am not exactly sure which is higher but I know the protein drinks (Unjury powder) is only 180 calories with skim milk and 3g of sugar and 29g of protein with the skim milk also.
I have decided anyway to do the Day 3 part as long as I can.
Now on Day 5 I'm sort of modifying anyway...but basically sticking to Day 3. I am drinking a protein shake when I feel the urge to eat more food or just when I get snacky...better than crackers!
I've been really sticking to the liquid rule: no drinks 30 mins before, during and after. That is hard!!! And drinking lots more water/crystal light then I ever imagined I could. LoL

My thoughts are.. protein drinks suck! lol but with my thoughts set aside.. how much sugar and calories are in the protein shakes, that might help you calculate what you should do. If they are higher than what food is and you want to drop a pound or two etc.. maybe food is better.

With full intntions of starting wednseday. Yeah, Company cancelled but will be here Sunday- which was still in the 5 day plan. Now I am aiming for Monday, But that won't work either because 4th of JUly. Oh life is just to full in this house. Heck sakes

Topic: Day 1 3-days OR Day 3 3-days???
SO I am on Day 2 of the 5 Day Pouch Test...
Feeling better than I thought but its definitely been a mental challenge! The things I thought would be hard (Cafe Mocha's in the a.m. and Wine in the p.m.) have not been that hard to avoid. It's all the "real" food that's around me all day at work! Ugh! Feel like I'm floating away! LoL
Just curious if I should stretch liquid portion out another day (honestly not sure I could handle it but want the loss of pounds) or if I should move on to Day 3 tomorrow as scheduled and do that for three days instead of just one?!?
The 5-DPT website says you "can" stretch out liquid portion but most people find it easier to stretch out the Day 3 part. I can see why. I want to chew and EAT something! LoL
Any thoughts from those of you that have done this before?

Wow, this was not nearly as bad as I was expecting. I ran out and bought supplies, and prepared my family for the worst, and was convinced this was going to be horribly painful and a hard recovery.
So glad I was wrong. Being me, I did have a complication. When the surgeon got in the abdomen for my Abdominoplasty, he was cutting around the belly button, and cut through what he was expecting to be scar tissue. Instead, apparently my fascia was paperthin from my previous emergency laparatomy following my leak, and probably worsened by my recent pregnancy. When he cut, he went through the fascia and into the abdominal cavity when my intestine became exposed. It was slightly nicked, but he was able to repair it without any problems. He then had to do the muscle corsetting from the bottom instead of the top to find healthy fascia. Surgery took almost 4 hours instead of 2.55-3, but he did an amazing job. He did keep me an extra day to observe me, and because I have had previous septic shock and was terrified.
He put in an extra drain as a precaution. So far, I am getting around really well. He was impressed when he came to discharge me. I have been able to get around with minimal pain. I have been able to shower and take care of myself. I am already amazed by the results, and can't wait for the swelling to go down. He is planning to remove at least two drains on Thursday, since they are putting out very minimal fluids.
Best part of all? My back pain seems to be SOOOOO much better!!!
