Loretta,
I had Dr.Kavlie in Bismarck and he has a Coordinator thats great (his whole team is) and they set my date at my 1st appointment. I had my doctors appointment on May 21st and we scheduled my surgery for (OH MY GOODNESS!) June 21st so that way there was enough time to get my approval which took less than a week and all my lab/xray/ekg stuff done which has to be done at least 10 days prior to surgery and also I had to start my 2 week Pre-Surgery diet on the 7th. So all in all it has been going pretty fast for me.

Topic: 1 Week Pre-Op
Well in one week from today I will be in surgery. AHHHH I an in denial I think. For some reason I can't picture myself actually doing it. I know I will because without it I will never be able to teach myself to chew better and eat slower and smaller portions etc. I can't wait to feel good and be able to actually do 30 minutes of "real" excercise that day will be a victory for me. I am proud to say I have not Cheated once on my 2 week diet...boy have I come close a couple times but i am blessed with friends and family that are keeping me in line lol. I am out to prove a point to the bariatric coordinator lol...last year when my husband had his surgery she asked him if he cheated anytime on his diet...which he had a couple and admitted it to her. She nodded her head and said at least your honest...anyone who says they didn't cheat is lying. I was like WHAT? Bring it on! lol I did start to ween myself off of sugar like a week before my "diet" was supposed to start so I bet if I would have ate normal till the day of my diet maybe I would have cheated...anyway I am getting excited and anxious. It's hard making out wills and writing letters for your spouse and daughter for them to be able to open when they graduate and get married etc. And I had to sit down with her and explain the risks so she knows whats happening to me and she understands well. Any way I am starting to write a novel. What should I take with to the hospital?

I'm 1 week pre-op but I drink the 100% whey and it makes me nauseated if I drink it cold. but if I heat it up and drink it like hot chocolate it doesn't bother me. I sure hope it doesn't after surgery.  Also i found at GNC there are Glass bottles (reminds me of the Arizona teas) of Isopure they're 40g protein and 0 carbs and fat. They're expensive but if you can't get your protein in on of them a day will help. They taste pretty good...the only flavor I've tried so far is the Orange Pineapple Banana. Hope that helps.

Lori, Thanks for your reply. Every thing went great at my appt. They said my BMI is 40 and every thing should  go with out a hitch, so now waiting again for approvel letter. Saterday was sad, as I should clarify the boys are my step sons, but never the less it was diffecult to watch them say good bye to their little ones. Keep them all in our prayers. Well, here is how mine worked (Dr. Monson).  I saw Dr. Monson, then it was submitted to insurance.  Once insurance approval came through, I received my date the very day of the approval.  I also scheduled my pre-op at the same time. That being said, with a BMI under 40, my insurance denied coverage, and the appeal.  9 months later, I finally got approved.  I had kind of stopped trying for a while, I was so discouraged.  Yours will probably be fine, but I had a fight on my hands.   I am sorry you had to send your boys to Iraq, that must be very difficult.  I have 3 sons; though none of them are in the military, I can imagine how difficult that would be.  Hang in there! Good Luck with your insurance, and keep me posted!

Well all this has been a hard weekend. My husband and I just sent our two boys to Iraq, this will be their second tour, I think this time was harder than the first time. Monday I have my appt. with my WLS surgeon, I am not sure what to expect, so if any one knows please clue me in. Will I get my surgey date or do I have to wait for it to be approved through the insurance? Please let me know Thanks  Loretta

Hi all,  I am here in south Fargo, just browsing thru all of this. I guess according to the login Ive been a menber for a while just havent found the time to return and loook thru all of the things this site has to offer. LIke.... the ND thing. I posted a lot on another web site for WLS but most of the people were from out East and the attitude of WLS is certainly different than here. {When after surgery can I drink coke?.....what?} so I just read the posts and dont post anymore, but I do like this site.      How are your support groups doing? I attend one offered by Dakota clinic on the last  {4th  }thursday of the month along with Dakota;s dietician. Pretty good.     Ok now its someone's else turn to talk...... Peggysue

Hi Diva,  I too, got terrible stomach aches in the beginning with whey protein, so I used rice protein, that helped. Now,{ WLS July20,2006} I can drink the whey stuff. But I use it in all my foods now. I make protein cookies and protein biscotti, and eats lots of rice cakes with pbut butter. I know when Im low on protein, I can tell now. In the beginning I couldnt, it does get better. Peggysue
