Topic: Stricture
I couldn't take anymore, I had to call the RD today. I have been still getting that foam and I take tiny sips and I chew for like 3 minutes and i eat tiny bites (I don't eat and drink together or a hour after eating), even mashed potatoes are awful. I can only eat like 3 - 5 bites and I feel like I will be sick if I take another bite or sip of water. I can only get like 30 oz down if I'm a lucky a day. I am so weak and tired all the time, vomiting, etc. It's extreamly frustrating. So the RD told me to stop all vitamins and pills I'm taking for 2 weeks and if I am not able to eat or drink more in 3-4 days I have to call her back. She thinks it's probably a stricture or stenosis? Anyone had this? Any pointers or prayers would be great right now. Thanks!

Dr. Howell did my surgery. I had to have my Nissen taken down also so Dr. Monson couldn't do it and referred me to Dr. Howell. Surgically I am doing fantastic but body aches...not as good. It is still so hard to get in and out of bed and find a comfortable position. We don't have a good recliner so thats out. Plus when I lay on my side it feels like my inerds are movin around...kinda creepy! Each day does get better though and if I can make those trepuree dishes taste good then I guess I can do anything...lol

I go to one of those 24 hour access gyms, Snapfitness. You can go when you want, so no excuses. I concentrate on the strength bearing equipment and still do walking. It seems to help build up the muscles more quickly.

I started taking my sleeping pills also. I took trazadone and that worked ok.
I exercise (walk) in the morning and I have been feeling great.
Who did your surgery? Mine was by Monson in Fargo. I feel great.
Good luck to you.

May I ask what type of exercise requirement did you do? I have been walking each morning.

Pattye,
Thank you for the warm wishes and cheer!! I knew I had my OH family here rootin for me so that helped. I sure could have used a laptop there for some cheering but I had so many awesome notes to read when I got home, so that was nice too. I'm off and running now...ok, maybe gimping slowly but I'm off :)

Diana,
Thank you soooo much for the well wishes. My hospital stay was not a great one but it sure felt good to get home. My husband isn't much on coddling but its ok since I can do most stuff on my own. I did start walking the same day of my surgery and I think thats helped me alot. Unfortunetly alot of my walking was every hour, as in I couldn't sleep. I've read where some hospitals actually cater to this whole process and if I were to do it again I think I would have looked into that. I instead found me a fantastic Dr.....sometimes I don't know if thats enough, there are sooo many other elements to this surgery- it really takes a team! Anyways, I'm on the mend now and have lost the 6 lbs I gained in the hospital...can you believe that...I 'GAINED" 6 lbs, I didn't even eat the first two days. My mom says its the IV fluids they pumped into me, BUT that didn't make it any easier to see on the scale. Today the scale is back to my starting weight though...phew
***Good Luck on your upcoming surgery, I hope all goes well and your healing is fast.

I had open on the 24th but I slept maybe 5 hours in the hospital total. My last night they gave me Ambein and that saved my life. They sent me home with 7 pills so I'm using them up. I still wake up at 2am or so to go pee and then I have to talk myself back to sleep. Then I sleep until about 6am or so, on a good day. I used to sleep all the time so I'm trying to just go with the flow, of course I'm still on this Ambien so we'll see when they run out.

Many of the surgical and floor staff in Park Rapids had the surgery, too, so they knew exactly what was needed and what I would feel like. I really felt surrounded by people who cared and understood what it was all about. I didn't even have to ask, they just knew. I felt like I was coached rather than just cared for as a patient. I really didn't have any pain with the laproscopic method, I was up and walking the halls the same day. I didn't even use any of the pain medication they sent me home with. I was tired the first week, but went back to work the next. It was a very good experience overall.
