I had Dr Helbling for my surgeon (lapband). I have had no issues and would definitely recommend him.

Can you tell me a little bit.  How much did you have to lose/  I am still trying to decide what surgery is best for me.  I would really like to have lapband but I am afraid I will fail at that just like so many other weight loss attempts I have tried.  Any info you could give me would be of great help.  Thanks

I had my surgery in Dec. The surgery was not bad. I had 2 wks off work and definitely needed it. I had the normal "gas" pains that go with any laproscopic surg, 4 incisions that were small and healed well. Bending over and getting up and down from a chair were rough for the first 3-4 days. I slept sitting up through that. I also had a hiatal hernia repair and if nothing else it was worth it, I have not had heartburn since Dec! WONDERFUL!
I've had fills every month, except last month I went 6 wks. I am still fairly new to this. I've lost right around 50 lbs. I think I am going to cancel my appt next wk and wait longer. This is the first time that I've actually exerienced "stuck".  I try really hard to follow the "rules", I feel full but I feel that the weight loss has been slow, but the PA that works for Dr. Helbling tells me I am right on track. She is super nice!

Why did you chose lapband over rny and how much did you have to lose initailly.  Any are you over 45 years old or under 45yrs old.

I am sorry I am asking so many questions but I want this to be the right decision because after this there are no more avenues to explore.

I am 47 yrs old, I want to loose 125 lbs, my IBW says I needed to loose 134 lbs. I chose lapband because I have seen the success of several friends of mine and I felt it to be the least invasive surgery. I do think the RNY would show quicker results and I am all about quick gratification (obviously!). Did I make the right decision? I am not sure to this day, but I do know I am feeling great and losing weight, so I am happy. I do wi**** was faster! But this is the path I've taken and I am sticking to it.  Have you talked to Dr. Helbling about it? I am sure he'd offer his opinion which is best for you!

One more thought is to go on both of the lapband and the RNY forums on this site and ask/read....I am sure there is lots on insight there.
