How soon till I'll feel better?
I finally had my RNY on Monday. I had taken off 50 pounds so it made it easy to do it laparascopically. The surgery went wonderful. Dr. Monson and staff were awesome. I felt great in the hospital. Didn't even feel like I had been in surgery. They only kept me in the hospital a total of 32 hours. By the time I got home and for these last 3 days, I have felt like I had been run over by a truck. How long before I'll feel better? After having been on Optifast for 9 weeks I thought I would have no problem eating the tre-puree. I had sampled them with the dietician and thought they were good. Also, the carnation instant breakfast tastes way too much like Optifast for me to appreciate it. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. Do I really have to get all this stuff down?
Hey Girl...First off, Congratulations on your surgery. Wow, they sure didn't keep you in the hospital very long. I had my surgery (11-19-08) on a Wednesday and went home Saturday morning. You had major surgery and you are bound to feel like you've been run over by a freight train. I didn't eat anything for two weeks after coming home....just jello, broth, tea, and water. I wouldn't worry about getting anything in but the water. Sip, sip
and keep hydrated and plenty of rest. Take care of yourself now. Keep us posted on your recovery and ask any questions you may have.
Hugs,
Sandy

Congrats!!!
I did not have the story book surgery I had hoped/dreamed of. I was not able to get everything down either,at first. Your body is at the point of acting in the "WTF! did you do to me" mode. It WILL all get better as time marches on, I promise!.
Like Sandy said make sure to get as many fluids in as possible. IF that means sipping/gagging/doing whatever it takes to get them in, do it. You don't want to end up in the hospital on IV's to re-hydrate yourself.
As far as CIB, try a different flavor, I found the vanilla to be better then the chocolate first out. It is all personal taste. Now they all taste good LOL. The tree-purees, I added a smidge of butter and a dash of salt to mine. I made 4 meals out of one tray. I didn't always get everything in (food) and some times only 3 a day. It will get better!
Make sure to keep moving. If that means walking/pacing back and forth in your house etc.. do it. I made a lot of tracks inside the house before ever attempting to go outside. It is important so you get rid of the gas and don't develope blood clots. Keep moving!
You have to be a rocket scientist to be able to fit in the 60 grams of protein and 60 ounces of liquids a day at this point! You will not become defishient in any of these areas right away, your body has a storage of all that stuff. Make sure to just get in fluids, some bites of foods and keep moving!
Final non wisdom words- Get plenty of rest between all that LOL
Best of luck,
Kelly/tink

glad you finally had your surgery!
call your nutritionist. I had some GNC caramel choc protein powder that they let me substitute for the other stuff. They just checked the calories and modified what/when I should do.
The most important thing is for you to stay hydrated, keep sipping!
you had major surgery, you will feel like crap for a little while but it will get better!
Some people buy the unjury unflavored protein powder and add it to chicken soup and stuff. other people buy powdered milk and add it to sugar free pudding for extra protein. call your dietician, she will help you!
