Who was/is your shining star?
We all did or are doing a lot of research on what surgery to have, who to have do the surgery, what type of surgery and 40 other million questions that page through our heads at this/that time.
We all had people who supported us,didn't support us or were just there not offering in any direction. The one thing that pops into my head was/is:
Who was/is my shining star? I know this is on the same lines as one of my other posts, this time with an added twist.
Looking back I had a couple stars that shined so bright they were blinding!
My most important star was my Curt, He planted the seed for me to think of having surgery, he thought I would benefit greatly from it. Mind you he was not a firm believer of this back a ways. My other shining star was one of my sweet friends Julia. She went through this surgery a few yrs ago on my birthday and had/has done wonderful- she truly inspired me from her success.
Finding people on this forum has been a wonderful thing too. Each and every person has given me a glimmer of sunshine and been many a colorful star in the sky. You each have so much to give and you just don't know how effective you are on/in other peoples lives!
I just wanted to take this time to thank each and everyone of you!! Keep up the good work and be someones shining star!
Cheers!

Oh my gosh, my journey started so long before I actually got to have surgery due to my denial, appeal, denial, give up, re-apply, and get approved - I think that part took over a year.
To me, I have a friend who had surgery (open RNY) 5 years ago, and she had done so well with it. Then another friend had surgery here (first friend lives in another state) and that friend was also an inspiration to me.
To see the success of those two people motivated me that "I" can do this and be successful. Support from wherever I can get it is very important to ME. I have met some lovely people at the Support Group meetings, and having someone to discuss vitamins, and protein, etc. etc. is very important for my success.
While my husband didn't necessarily think I needed to have this surgery (I had just recovered from a different major operation when this approval came through), he did support my decision to do it. Since surgery, he has been wonderful. He has been very important in this journey.....I still like to go out to eat, and lord knows I don't eat my share of a meal, but he never complains and always lets me order what "I" want to eat at a restaurant, then he shares the meal with me.
Good question Kelly.

Oh my gosh Kelly....What a nice post. I guess I have several shining stars and the first would be my husband. Both my children (ages 44 & 41....) and the gals in my sorority group who have given me encouragement all along and are so happy for me. Like others, I also have a few people that have acted differently towards me since WLS and I expected that from the start. People are leery of something they do not understand and that is human nature. I have found support from all of the wonderful people here on OH . There is no local support group here in Williston. There was one a few years ago and it fell by the wayside, for what reasons I do not know so I look to all of you wonderful people here and on my Over age 50 forum. I would love to visit a North Dakota support meeting sometime and perhaps one day I will get the chance.
Hugs to all my LOSER friends and those contemplating WLS also.

Kelly....I love reading your posts. You are so interesting and have such a great sense of humor. You are someone I'd really like to meet. Maybe someday that could happen. I am 3 1/2 months out and consider myself A WORK IN PROGRESS. I have lost 65 pounds, a total of 51 inches and have 44 pounds to lose and I'm hoping to do it by mid-summer. I feel so dang much better physically AND emotionally too. What a RIDE it's been so far.
Keep Posting Friend,
