A couple of years ago, the local paper, the Fargo Forum printed a little article on how the perception of cold weather depends on where you live in the USA.  Here is an exerpt:

"While Today" show hosts discuss the "brutal" cold in the Big Apple when it hits 10 degrees, people in North Dakota are shrugging their shoulders and muttering 'They don't know the meaning of brutal.'

60 degrees above zero
Floridians turn on the heat, People in North Dakota plant gardens

50 degrees above zero
Texans shiver uncontrollably, People in Minot sunbathe

40 degrees above zero
Italian and English cars won't start, People in North Dakota drive with the windows down

32 degrees above zero
Distilled water freezes, The water in Grand Forks gets thicker

20 degrees above zero
Alabamans don coats, thermal underwear, gloves and wool hats.  People in ND throw on a flannel shirt.

15 degrees above zero
New York landlords turn on the heat; People in ND have the last cookout before it gets cold

Zero
People in Miami die, North Dakotans close the windows

10 below zero
Californians fly to Mexico, People in ND get out their winter coats

25 below zero
Hollywood disintegrates, the Girl Scouts in North Dakota are selling cookies door to door

40 below zero
Washington DC runs out of hot air; People in ND let their dogs sleep indoors

100 below zero
Santa Claus abandons the North Pole; North Dakotans get frustrated because they can't start their trucks.

460 below zero
All atom motion stops at absolute zero on the Kelvin scale; People in ND start saying "cold 'nuff, yet?"

500 below zero
Hell freezes over; North Dakota public schools are closing.

That's funny.... yet disturbingly true on many counts!

Interesting how 30 degrees in October is "cold" but then 30 degrees in January is a "really nice day."

Boy isnt that the truth!  By the time that 32 degrees comes, people will be wearing shorts! When i went to work this morning at 5:45 it was 27 below here in Fargo.... I guess after it gets to 5 or so below, its cold and hard to tell what temp it is unless the wind is blowing....

LOL Lori that is a good one and oh so true!

Peggysue- the friend thing is not working. It has nothing to do with either of us tho. After some other postings I found out since the change over of OH (all this new stuff) It is not up and working yet. So will have to try again another time.

Hello all,
finally got out today and went to the Mall for the sidewalk sales, didn't find much, did buy a sweater in Macys marked all the way down to 11$
my 2 other sisters found some bargins at Kohls.
Boy... were the people in town, I guess because of the ACDC concert tonight at the Dome. All hotels in Fargo are full, I guess the Canadians are spending  their dollars today!

This is a new group that meets here in Fargo, for anyone......Peggysue WEIGHT LOSS SUPPORT GROUP MEETING NEW LOCATION, NEW DATE FOR JANUARY!   I apologize for the frequent changes, we have another one this month, but hopefully, the last one. Rachel Rudel has secured Room 252 & 254 in the lower level of the HOSPITAL for us from now on, but due to conflicts with scheduling and availability on the third Tuesday, it is now the third MONDAY. Since the Innovis Clinic location appeared to be confusing with the hospital location (due to name), it WILL NOW BE at the Hospital on 32nd Street South---Not the clinic, but the hospital. We won't have the issue of the locked doors after 6, that was a problem last month. The room may be labeled as GBPS Support Group II, from 6-7:30pm on Monday, January 19, not the 20th as anticipated.   The Support Group is for anyone who had a surgical weight loss surgery, friends or family of someone who did, or anyone who is considering the surgery.   This month, we'll talk about the social stigmas of being overweight. I received some great informative brochures from the national coalition about this topic, and its something that I find many of us share our feelings about this---I'm the same person, so why do people treat me different than they used to? You may have thoughts about this or examples to share that may help another who is dealing with this. This is one of the topics many of you raised on the surveys we conducted, that means a lot to you.   See you Monday, January 19 at 6pm in the Innovis Hospital lower level, rooms 252 & 254, from 6-730pm.   -Kathi
