Hello everyone,
I have been a lurker for some time now, used to post all the time, but now seeing that the N D board is getting some posts, thanks Tinkerbell, I would like to tell you that ND did make the OH magazine. My sisters and brother and other family members are  in the current issue. We feel very fortunate that OH told our story.
We attend 2 meetings a month for support and welcome anyone, no matter where your surgery was done. email me if you are interested in attending.
Once again, thanks for reading this and Happy New Year to everyone.

Finally...someone from ND has posted.  I live in Williston and there is no WLS support group here so I have gone to the OFF (over age 50) group for the only support I have.  There are many people right here in Williston who have had surgery but no one seems to want a Support Group.  It was tried I guess but that was a year or so before I had my surgery.  I had RNY in Bismarck by Dr. Bruderer on November 19th, 2008 and am doing great, have lost 44 pounds, 27 inches and still shrinking!!  LOL  I'd like to see more people from North Dakota posting on OH. It is a great site.  I'd love to read about you and your family Peggy.  Tinkerbell has been good about posting. I should check here and post here more often.  Thank you Peggy.

Sandy

hi Sandy,
you can read about us, just go up and click on the OH maga zine and it should come up as a free article, I think. If it doesnt work, email me and Ill send you a email copy. QWe are pretty proud of us.
I had my RNY in July '06 and have lost 125 pounds and have kept it off. we all had our surgery done in Park Rapids, Mn with DR. Smith. He and his staff are great... Fargo Dr's/hospitals here didn't have "center of excellence" that our insurance required. We are all in excellent health now and one of my sisters started a new support group besides the one that Innovis offers. It has been very well attended, there is so much interest here. My husband had his RNY surgery  in Minneapolis in 2000 and he was not offered much in education, now the education that is offered is a must, to stay successful.
I have read your posts and you sound so positive, good luck to you on your journey and if there is anything i can answer please email me....

Thank you for posting!!

It is so wonderful when I see a post from someone other then myself!! LOL

I would be willing to know more about the groups you talked about. I attend the one for merit care faithfully each month. Sometimes it just isn't enough.

Are you the family that was in the Fargo forum a couple months ago by chance?

Keep posting! I love it

Hello Kelly,
yes that was us.... the gal from the Fargo Forum.,Tammy Swift, that wrote the article, also has had Gastric Bypass, she did a wonderful job, it was a very positive item.
We have one meeting  at Innovis health on South University Dr on the 4th Thursday of the month from 4;30 to 5:30 and the other one, I will have my sister Kathi, post it on here. We dont care where you have  had surgery done, everyone needs support, from the beginning to the after care.I have attended the meritcare meetings and was so dissapointed... what a waste of time and I work for Meritcare.I felt that the Dietiticans were not understanding and seemed not to care about bypass issues, At the meeting i attended all they did was laugh and talk to each other, 50 of us sat there and watched them giggle.
you sound like your doing very good... good for you!

Peggysue,

I followed that story as I do most local ones here. There was like a couple different ones that came out a bit a part. It is so interesting to read/talk etc.. to different ones. If memory serves me correctly ( This will be a stretch with my 2 second memory- more B 12 I say!) Was there 5 or 6 of you (family) that had surgery?

I am always game to try new things. I will toss that one date around. Seeing as it is not the same day. Keep me posted on other things.

Do any of you do coffee or such as a group in leisure time? I would be open to something of that nature too. LOL

Yes, I am doing good. I had a rough start out of the gate but past that life got better LOL

Keep in touch

Hi Kelly,
More B12... I do 2 shots a week .... yes my sisters tell me you dont have to, but I feel so much better when I do, my job has me walking the halls of So university hospital, that I am told I walk 10 miles a day... so i need the B12...
Anyway, my husband had the surgery first, in Minneapolis in 2000, then my sister  in Conn, then my nephew by marrige, summer of 04, he had his done at Meritcare, all the following had it done in Park Rapids, Mn with Dr. Smith,
my brother Bob in Nov, 05, then me in July, 06,then my BIL, Dale, in Sept,06 then my sister Mary and her daughter{same day} Oct. 06 then my sister  Kathi { had to fight BCBS of ILL, 5 times}
in March 07, then my neice {Mary's  other daughter} in Aug 08, Kathi's daughter in law, OCT. 08, we are all healthy and have had absolutly no problems. The problem with my husband and the nephew is that there were absolutly no follow up and no education. They were told they could drink pop, never a vitimen routine, no exercise.... but they have learned. from us thats not the case.
We have also doen a tv show on channel 6 for surgery, 'ask the dr' with Michelle Turnburg, that was interesting.
I am the only one that doesnt like to eat meat, so I use tofu, all other ways and am very happy with that. I am the only one that lost my hair, it all came back, but now I am the proud owner of 23 wigs and hairpieces, I still wear  all of them, {I used to be a beautician}.
well today is my day off and tomorrow too, I work every other weekend, so I best get busy, blizzard conditions, so what else is new?   tired of his weather.... talk to you soon, Peggysue

Try listing this website on www.craigslist.org

Pick your state and the closet city......Many people lurk on there and maybe you'll draw some attention.

I grew up in Streeter, ND and my dad currently LIves in Jamestown............

So - I still have some connections in ND.............if you all get bored............come and ready the Texas Message Board.............we are a very active and friendly group.............
  • Pease check out Dr. Connie Stapleton's Website. A lot of good information on there for all WLS patients regardless of the surgery you chose.  Good luck to all and I'm here for you if you want to send me an email.  I'll answer it as soon as possible.

I saw the article in the forum and the article in OH---I was trying to figure out if it was the same family, but I thought it had to be.

I would be interested in this support group - I was very good at attending the Meritcare Support Group, but missed the last couple.  It seems more focused on pre-WLS than after, but I still try to go.

Thanks for posting this info, and do keep posting.  Kelly has done a great job trying to get this message board going; I try to add every now and again!

Again, thanks - hoping to hear from you.
