1 Week Pre-Op

Well in one week from today I will be in surgery. AHHHH I an in denial I think. For some reason I can't picture myself actually doing it. I know I will because without it I will never be able to teach myself to chew better and eat slower and smaller portions etc. I can't wait to feel good and be able to actually do 30 minutes of "real" excercise that day will be a victory for me. I am proud to say I have not Cheated once on my 2 week diet...boy have I come close a couple times but i am blessed with friends and family that are keeping me in line lol. I am out to prove a point to the bariatric coordinator lol...last year when my husband had his surgery she asked him if he cheated anytime on his diet...which he had a couple and admitted it to her. She nodded her head and said at least your honest...anyone who says they didn't cheat is lying. I was like WHAT? Bring it on! lol I did start to ween myself off of sugar like a week before my "diet" was supposed to start so I bet if I would have ate normal till the day of my diet maybe I would have cheated...anyway I am getting excited and anxious. It's hard making out wills and writing letters for your spouse and daughter for them to be able to open when they graduate and get married etc. And I had to sit down with her and explain the risks so she knows whats happening to me and she understands well. Any way I am starting to write a novel. What should I take with to the hospital?

I am pre-op yet (not far behind ya though), so can't help you with much there.  What I can tell you is that I was hospitalized in October for 4 days to have a hysterectomy.  I can tell you what I had and used then: chapstick slippers book/magazine toothbrush/toothpaste hairbrush lotion address book with phone numbers of people I wanted to call That is the stuff I used.  I would expect the needs to be similar for this hospitalization.  I have been trying to be very good with my diet prior to this liquid diet (gave up sugar, carbonated beverages some time ago), but there is still a couple things I wanted to have prior to surgery, and I did.  I did not go overboard; that was my fear, that the minute I found out I was having surgery I would want to eat all my "last meals."  I didn't let myself go there. I have been on the fence on writing the letters sort of thing.  I went into my previous surgery (which was an abdominal incision, not laproscopically) without doing those things.  I do not think I will do them this time either.  That being said, my kids are not little any longer.  Perhaps if they were I would rethink that decision.  My youngest just graduated from high school.  I do have a son getting married September 1st, but I am hopeful that all will go well with my surgery. So was the liquid diet really hard?  I am excited to start it, as I know it is one step closer to surgery.   Good luck to you in your surgery!  Please keep us posted.

I am finding this diet easier now than the first few days. The first few days I was extreamly emotional. Sad one minute mad or excited the next it was wierd. I still find myself passing the brownies someone brought into work and thinking "I wish I could have just one little taste" but I am determined not to cheat on this diet, and I haven't. I have found that Sugar Free jello and popsicles (which the dr & nut said was ok) has really helped me through the hunger pains and cravings, as I still feel like I'm getting a treat even if it is like 10 calories an no sugar. I only have liek 1/4 cup of jello OR 1 popsicle, I don't go overboard. It's just something to help pass my hunger or craving. I also didn't let myself eat all my "last meals" part of me wished I would of lol but I'm glad I didn't. All in all I am on my 7th day of the diet and generally I don't feel hungry at all. And if I do get hungry I'm surprised that the small meal (4oz lean meat & 1/2 cup Vegies excluding corn, potatoes and peas) a day I'm allowed satisfies me. Also I experience bouts of feeling like I am going to pass out. It hits me all of a sudden I feel extreamly week, dizzy, sweaty, shaky, light headed, nausiated, etc and I have to sit down or lie down or eat something or I feel like I will black out...it's kinda scary. But other than that I'm doing really well.
