I am just wondering if anyone has had a lapband done by done by Dr. Monson in Fargo? I am scheduled to have this procedure done with him on June 20th. Just starting to get a little nervous now....sometimes I am very positive and others (especially after I read something not positive) I am just not too sure....Hoping someone out there can help me out... Thanks.............

I have not had my surgery yet, I'm still pre-op but I have had Dr. Monson do a procedure on me and he was awesome.  The only problem I had was when I woke up it felt like my shoulders were put in a vise and someone was squeezing the heck out of them.  I had not been told about this side effect and it was terribly painful.  I can honestly say my lap incisions never hurt me.  I was given something for the pain in my shoulders though.  A few years later I had another lap procedure and I didn't feel that pain in my shoulders and my incisions didn't hurt either.   I started this journey with the thought of getting lapband from Dr. Monson but after going to the seminar at the hospital I thought gastric bypass was more up my alley.  The first person I thought of wanting to do it was Dr. Monson, I even had my consult with him.  Once he saw that I had the Nissen procedure done he said he couldn't do my surgery lap, if I wanted it lap I would have to go to the cities.  I decided I didn't want my surgeon so far away in case of complications so I chose to have Dr. Howell do my surgery.  So I've pretty much ran the gambent here...first lapband, then lap gastric bypas and now open gastric bypass.  I was pretty sad that Dr. Monson couldn't do it laproscopically but VERY impressed that he knows what he can and can't do so he referred me on.  I hope this helped you in a round about way...good luck to you, your in good hands!! Danni PS...I should get a call today from Dr. Howell's nurse and since my insurance already approved me she said I might be able to pick a date.  He's on vacation all week and I don't personally meet with him until 6/28...this has been so backwards for me...lol

hijack: good luck with your consult danni. Dr Howell is doing my surgery next Tuesday and he did my husband's one year ago.  He has been dead on accurate with everything he has told my hub.  I feel that the group at Meritcare is the best in the area.  good luck!  judi j

LMAO...I was like...who's Jack??  Yah, not the brightest bulb in the box somedays..hahaa  Good Luck with your surgery, that is sooooo exciting!!  Some days I wish my husband was overweight, just for a day so he knew what I went through.  Of course he isn't and probably never will be.  I'm glad you have your husbands support, how nice to go through it with someone who knows exactly what your talking about and feeling.  My husband is more like, why don't you just eat bread and water...lol...yes, he's still breathing but hasn't brought that silly thought up again :) I too love MeritCare!   Thanks for the "hijack"  Its nice to hear from someone so close and that is going to have the same Dr.
