I've given all of my clothes to Goodwill and go back inside to get more, but I like the idea of donating to woman *****ally need it. Thanks for the info :)
Welcome. My surgeon was Dr Tyner. The doctor's and nurses are good there... it's the office people that sometimes is questionable. The store downstairs has some great items and the prices are comparable to the internet. I take advantage of the store as often as I can!
I am new to the whole process but wanted to let you all know that Mission Weight Management in Asheville NC is now accepting Medicaid for the surgery. There are out of pocket expenses that are not covered such as $50.00 due at orientation (Not the free info event, but the second scheduled appointment). $400.00 fee due at your first Dr appointment and a $230.00 dietician fee. They do try to work with your personal Dr to have as much covered by Medicaid as possible. (5/8/13) Good luck!
Even after some regain I'm still amazed at the changes that WLS brought to my entire life. Of course there's the benefit of no longer being diabetic ---that's the factor I use to determine my surgery was successful (regardless of a number on the scale). Being able to shop "normal" size stores for clothing and just being able to go to the mall or department store and feel like I'm not the biggest lady there has been a part of the journey. Having some energy and the desire to be active. Taking control of my health. Cathcing my heart problem early so it could be fixed. (I'd never known there was a problem if I hadn't know what it felt like to feel good)
But the biggest benefit/blessing was rather unexpected. As a big girl I never thought I had self esteem issues. But once I started losing weight I realized just how many things I had avoided because I was "FAT". One thing was dating. I had settled for a horrid, unhealthy relationship because I thought it was the best I could do.
After I lost the first 50 lbs. a friend sort of dared me to create an on-line profile. Well the first site was a bust. We now call them e-family since they tried to match me up with my COUSIN. (I swear it!!!) Then a friend on here suggested Plenty of Fish. What the heck....I figured it would be a safe way to develop some dating skills. Little did I know what would happen 4 1/2 years later.
My online date is about to become my HUSBAND. We're getting married on July 4th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never in a million years thought I would remarry. I'm gaining 2 wonderful children. I'll have 3 brother in laws and 4 sister in laws. The combining of our 2 families is going to be a sight to behold.
Weight wise I'm not at goal but LIFE wise I've surpassed my goals. Life is good.

Debra,
You may want to contact the NC Department for Health and Human Services. Here is a link to the NC Division of Medical Assistance guidelines for Bariatric Surgery dated June 2012. NC Medicaid had been paying for bariatric surgery as long as you met the criteria (outlined in this document) for several years. I think that some time in 2011 they suspended coverage for a while, but I believe that they may have resumed coverage, so I would check with them.

Good luck!

Does anyone know if Medicaid of NC pays for Gastric Bypass Surgery and if it does is it very hard to get approved? I have several medical conditions that I believe are directly related to my obesity. I'm not JUST overweight but have these medical conditions too...Diabetes, high BP, depression, heart disease, high cholesterol along with back and joint pain. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Debra
If anyone is going to be in the Carrboro area Saturday, I am selling some clothes at a multi-family yardsale. Everything is priced really cheap because I want to get my closet cleared out! Sizes range from XL to XXL, pants sizes 16 and 18 mostly. If anyone is interested we'll be at 618 Hillsborough Rd., Carrboro. That's at the corner of Greensboro and Hillsborough. 8-12 or so.
Looking some input on Plastic Surgeons in he Raleigh area. TIA
