I am 6 years post op and looking to have revision surgery. I originally had Rny and lost about 110 lbs and have gained about 70 of it back, mostly because emotion roller coaster. I had my first surgery in Charlotte and now live in Durham. I looking for a surgeon in Raleigh/Durham that is experienced in revisions. Any suggestions?
There are several that have used Duke and might chime in on their recommendations, but you may want to also post on the main RNY forum.
Question-why not just address the 'emotional roller coaster' and use the tool you already have vs. doing surgery again? Another RNY or ??

Thank you! Your memory was correct. They called me and told me what I needed to pay. I paid a portion of it (what my insurance company told me I needed to pay, not what they asked). I will be billed for anything else. Such a huge relief!
I had surgery at Durham Regional in March 2011. I do recall them asking me for a credit card to pay 1/2 of my co-pay portion of the surgery before I had surgery. But they called me like 1-2 days before my surgery and asked me for this but if I do recall correctly--I did have to give them a credit card payment for 1/2 of my insurance co-pay for the surgery. I do recall having to give them a payment ahead of time. But it was tied to my insurance (BCBS)...I had to pay 1/2 of the 20% I owed for the procedure. So likely I had to pay them $1,200.00 or so before the surgery. It's been a couple of years so I can't remember clearly but I do recall paying upfront prior to my surgical procedure.

Hi Audra,
Yes, I was thinking about going but I wasn't sure WHEN the event was exactly. My invitation for it is on my desk at work so I won't be able to take a look at it until Monday 3/17. I need to RSVP to the phone number that was included in the invitation. Do you know what the date is? I wonder if I still have time to RSVP to it. I really would like to go to this.
Thanks, Donna
How many of you Duke/Durham Regional patients are going to the get together at Brier Creek Country Club at the end of the month?

I received a list of approved locations for my psych eval and called the closes office to schedule. I was told by the staff that the doctore there requires 8 hrs of testing and multiple visits before he will approve you for surgery because he doesn't agree with WLS while other offices only require one visit. Rather than calling everyone on the list I thought I'd check here to see who everyone else has used. I will be having my surgery in Hickory, NC. Places willing to travel for my psych eval would include Hickory, Morganton, Gastonia and Asheville.
Thank you!
I would let your surgeon know what you were told. I don't know why someone who does not agree with WLS would be recommended by a surgeon who does WLS. Hope you have since found a good person for your evaluation. I now see the doctor who did mine twice a month and am thankful to have found her!

I'd call their office and talk to the financial care counselor, they will have the information that you need.
Good luck!

I did not have to prepay either, but my insurance deductible had been satisfied. Just want to add that my care there was excellent from start to finish. My anesthes. Dr. Thomas, was unbelievable. She came in my bay before surgery, sat down and answered all my questions and fears. Because of medical conditions, I could not get a pre-op sedative, and was so impressed with the OR staff. The resident/intern assigned to my case was in the OR with me, and on the floor frequently. My every need was quickly addressed. After returning to my room, they quickly gained control of my pain and I was quite comfortable for the entire stay. They were great!
I did not have to prepay anything to the hospital but I had surgery there 4 years ago so I am not sure of their requirements now.
