Wanted to see how long it took people to get back to work post surgery. I work a desk job and sit all day... was wondering if I could go back for partial days after the first week post surgery? If the full 2 weeks is needed off... how was it going back to work? Tired, no energy? etc

Hi - I had my surgery on Dec. 28, 2005 - have lost 74 lbs to date!! (Just had to throw that in!!) My surgery was on Wednesday and I went back to work the next Wednesday. I have a desk job, also. It wasn't bad - I was a little more tired than usual, but I'd go to the car at lunch and let the seat back for my lunch hour and relax. It was fine, but everyone is different. You might try it and see if you can handle it for a full day.

Hi Jennifer, I had my surgery on Tuesday the 21st and was back at work full-time on Monday the 27th. I had no problem at all going back...I have a desk job as well and found I was perfectly comfortable getting up and moving around...even walked 30 minutes at lunch my first day back. Wear loose clothing if your scars are still tender. My surgeon is Dr. Melkonian and he had no problem releasing me to work (he wrote my release for me the day after surgery...the release was for my sick pay program)...he and Dr. Lowe are in the same office. As a precaution I did ask Dr. M to add to the release that I could decide to work 1/2 days if I didn't feel like staying the whole day, but that wasn't necessary.

I had my surgery the Friday before Thanksgiving and returned to work the Monday following Thanksgiving-10 days later. I had to drive and attend hearings the first 4 days back at work at varying places across the state. I did fine, and really felt no more tired than usual.

I went back in 2 weeks. But was so weak and tired I had to make myself move. Didn't think I would ever get any energy back. But I did about 6 months later. amy

I took 3 weeks off work, I could have used more time since I was very tired out, but I drudged back. I was originally told 4-6 weeks recovery. I am greatful I had an awsome recovery and no problems. I recommend that you wear comfy clothes when you go back - I found it hard to wear jeans or anything that snapped due to the incisions. I do have a desk job too, the hardest part was all the people who sat around me and eat all day long. Woah.
