Jennifer Taurus...a Question for you
Hi Jennifer
I wanted to ask you since you went to Dr. B, as I am too, what your reason was to get the RNY and not the Fobi Pouch procedure done?
I will be going back to see Dr. B once all my test are in and will have to make the decision of which one I want.
I've read what you have written before about why you chose the RNY over lapband, and basically it is the same reason that I changed my mind from lapband to RNY. At my first visit with Dr. B I had decided RNY over the Fobi, mainly because I didn't understand the Fobi, then he explained and now I am not so sure.
(I have sent email via this website to other patients of Dr. B and asked them why they chose Fobi but no one replied)
anyway.....
Just wanted to know if you would share the reason with me.
Thanks
G
I'm not Jennifer but I just had surgery on April 18th and I got the band. I got it because DR. Bauman told me that it helps to keep you from gaining your weight back and makes it easier to keep it off long term. I came home from the hospital yesterday and I'm amazed at how good I feel. I have some gas pain and my tummy is sore but I'm doing really well.
Doc Roc is the best surgeon you could find in this area. He knows what he's doing !!!
Rhonda
Thank you Rhonda!
That is what/how he explained it to me also.
Do you know if the band has had approval yet? Or is he still making it?
I'm scared of the erosion.... but he has not had any (erosion) either.
I cannot wait...but I have too!
When I had some of the pre test done, I found out, i was low in iron, low magnesium and have to do the Helidac Therapy. Plus that my thyroid is out of whack (which i was shocked by, because i had it tested last year and it was 1.86 and when i had it tested first of this month it was 32.)
Anyway.... waiting for the time to retest them.
Thank you for your reply.

Hello G -
It's interesting that you ask why I didn't chose the fobi pouch. I honestly had no interest in it. When it was explained to me in the consultation it didn't check my interest. The concept of putting a ring on my stoma was the same as putting a lap band, the same things with the fobi band can happen with lap band. Food can get stuck, pills can get stuck, you have to be extra careful because of the restricted opening.
Also, errosion is possible.
I chose the RNY because I wanted one surgery and to move on and become healtiher. I totally don't regret for a minute not doing the fobi pouch. I know my RNY will be sucessful, even in the long term without it.
One of the big selling points of the fobi is the 5 year study where people with fobi did better without gaining weight than regular rny. This wasn't enough to sway me either. The choice is totally yours, the fobi is a tool if you need additional assurance. I know that your in the hand of the best surgeon in our area and what ever you chose will be a great choice.
I also know Dr B is not going to do anything until all you health and labs are up to par, waiting is hard, but it's so worth it.
I like Rhonda, went home quickly and have had a marvilous recovery. The first few weeks were hard on me, because of the liquids and the mental restrictions in my mind. I"ve recovered well, down 42 lbs in 8 weeks and hoping to be down 50lbs by the end of May.
I can only speak of the positive because I've had such a wonderful and positive experience, from the consult through recovery, mine has been great! Please email me if you have any questions or post them here.
I'm happy to help.
Good Luck and stay patient.
Jennifer
