Hi, all,

I am new here and new to considering WLS. My endocrinologist recommended it to me because, despite my best efforts, my diabetes is not controlled.

I don't personally know anyone who has had this surgery so I don't have anyone to inspire me or ask questions of.  I am more than a little apprehensive about having this done. I haven't even decided for sure if I want to actually go through with it or not. My family is supportive and my insurance is too, so the main thing in my way is my own misgivings and fear.

Anyone in the South Charlotte area willing to chat with me about their experience? Anyone around here on the same sort of time frame as me (I could use a surgery buddy!) I am planning to use Dr. Lowe at Carolina Surgical and am currently thinking Jan 9th-ish for the surgery.

Any suggestions from you vets would be most appreciated!

I used Dr. Melkonian at the same practice as did my husband. LOVE LOVE LOVE the new life we have!!! Are you already approved if you are thinking of a January date? Keep in mind, you'll be on your liquid diet over Christmas, which is 100% doable, but you need to plan effectively!

Please come to support group in December--it is a GREAT way to meet folks and talk to newbies and vets and folks like me who are 'aged newbies' :)

First Wednesday in Dec at 5:30 on the Randolph Road office.

If you want to PM me with any questions, please feel free to do so!! :)

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
