Well for those following my progress, I went to the dr yesterday morning and the decision was made to readmit me to the hospital. I was severely dehydrated (which I knew) an I'm very fatigued and in pain. I had a PICC line placed yesterday because the doctor wants me to get TPN at home once I'm discharged. I am having an endoscopy tomorrow to see what (if anything) is causing the nausea and vomiting.  I'm very discouraged. I just want things to get back to normal. I hate being in the hospital and I miss my kids. I'll update when I know more tomorrow.

I have been in your shoes.  I was finally diagnosed with 2 small bleeding ulcers at the anastamosis site.  After they found out what was causing the nausea and vomitting and started treating it, I was feeling much better.  I too was on TPN at home for a couple of months actually.  If this turns out to be what happens, or if you have any questions or want to comiserate, just let me know.  It will get better and even though I went through a lot of pain and had problems I would still have the surgery again tomorrow.

I'm so sorry you've been going thru such difficulties.  I will keep you and your family in my prayers.  Hopefully, they'll find out exactly what is causing the problem and you'll be on your way to health and happiness soon.

Thanks everyone. I was discharged yesterday evening. The EGD showed ulceration/abscess. Home health came last night and showed us how to setup the TPN but we are on our own tonight so I hope everything goes smoothly. I've been in bed much of the day. The TPN is not agreeing with me and I'm in the bathroom alot. I'm trying to stay positive but it's really hard. They've put me on an anti-depressant which is strange for me because I'm not generally a depressed person. I'm usually the funny person who keeps everyone laughing but lately it's been one bad turn after another. I'm hoping that things get better soon. They've sent me home on several meds. I'm not able to keep down the liquids but the doctor said even if I'm throwing them up some of them are still absorbing and eventually it will get better. That's what I keep telling myself, "Eventually, it will get better." I just wish eventually was now.....

Just wanted to check in with you.  Probably by now the TPN cycling is old hat and you are carrying around that bag like a pro.  Did they put you on Amitryptiline (sp)?  If so I was put on that as well, but my doc said it was more for nausea and to use as a sleep aid.  Try to walk as much as possilbe and get plenty of rest too.  I was on Carafate too and that was some yucky stuff.  It was too sweet tasting to me.

Anyway was thinking of you and wanted you to know.
