Hello everybody! I am a new member on this website. A friend of mine told me about it. She had WLS over a year ago and looks AMAZING!!! I am now looking to get information and learn the different types of surgeries. I was so happy to find a forum for NC. It's nice to find local people to talk to during this process.
Hello!!
Welcome! You will find many different types of surgery here. I will start. I had the mini gastric bypass (MGB). Basically, you are given a pouch about the size of a large marker. Then at least six feet of the small intestines is bypassed and connectionis made at that point (http://clos.net). Success rate is very high with this procedure.
Getting insurance approval for any surgery can be a real pain but be persistant!!!!!!!!!!!! That is the key.
You will find people on here extremely friendly and always ready to share their journey with you. I had my procedure 11 years ago May and I would do it again in a heart beat. With any of the types you learn about, weight gain is an issue. It would be nice if all the surgeries fixed the brain as well. We may have a powerful tool but if our habits, triggers, attitudes etc are not given the support they need, then we can sometime forget and start falling back into our old habits. Once we get the kinks worked out, the tool is there for us to get back on track.
Support of family and the medical community is something to work on before surgery. Your support system is extremely important. Also having a good support group to go to will also help in your journey to a new you.
Good luck on your quest and stay on board.
