XP - Changing goal weight once meeting goal weight?

I told myself I would not continue to change my goal weight once I met it.  I am now a few pounds under my goal weight that I set for myself before the surgery.  I am a size 10/12 and I am very happy with where I am.  I have loose skin but it is nowhere near as bad as I feared.   I am starting to exercise regularly again.  I was swimming 3 times a week during the summer but I have been only exercising once a week since September.  I think my new goal should be to exercise regularly and to get my protein and supplements in 6 out of 7 days a week.  Instead I am attempted to lower my weight goal but I think that will get me into a old pattern of no lower weight will be good enough and I will continue to try to lose more.  A good change for me would be to concentrate on healthy behaviors such as regular exercise, eating a proper diet for me, and being zealous about my vitamins and supplements.  Any thoughts you would like to share.

(((Holly))),

To be honest, I don't think that you are done losing yet. Your body will ultimately 'decide' where it needs to be and that is likely somewhat smaller than you are now. Remember when we saw each other at the last support group meeting and I told you that I thought you'd end up in a single digit size? That's because you are still likely to keep losing. It's not at all unusual for you to lose for the first 12 to 16 months. The weight loss slows down the closer you get to that 'sweet spot.' For some of us, we drop a little lower than what will ultimately be our new 'normal', but we settle in there just fine. I know it's hard, but just let your body find it's new 'normal.' I think you will be pleasantly surprised that it feels just right. I wouldn't be worried that you will become fixated with wanting to get to an unhealthy light weight. I think the fact that you are voicing a concern shows that you have a healthy reserve and concern about the issue.

Wishing you continuing success,

Thanks for your words.  It will be interesting to find my "new" normal!

You are welcome Holly...

What I'm not sure I was conveying, is that your body is likely to seek and find that weight that will be one you can sustain and that will be healthy for you. If you can, just keep with the program and let it happen. I really wouldn't worry unless your BMI starts moving into an unhealthy range, but I honestly don't think that is very likely. Just stay in touch with your Dr and make sure that they are aware if you have any concerns about your weight dropping too low. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing what your 'new normal' will be too.

See you soon!
