The big day is near....

Greeting to everyone in the NC forum! I debated for weeks whether or not I was going to creat an online profile and post to this site. However, I figure the best support I can get is from those who a currenlty going through or have already gone through gastric bypass surgery.  My surgery date is TOMORROW, Mon. Sep 27th, 2010!!  I'm nervous and excited!! I'll be at Durham Regional for my procedure.  I have talked to some co-wokers and they are excited for me ( they ahve already had either gastric or lapband). The nervousness come in not really knowing how my body will react afterwards. I think I will be fine.

Is there anyone else having their surgery either on the same day or soon afterwards? If so, I wish all of you good luck!! For those who have already had the surgery ( and clearly survived this 3 weeks I'm not looking forward to...), my main question is...HOW DID YOU GET THROUGH THE 3 WEEK LIQUID PHASE?

Peace and Blessings,

KidKimberly

Hi Kimberly,

I know that you'll be at the hospital when this is posted, but I hope you will have a smooth, uncomplicated procedure that is followed by a swift, gentle recovery. While I agree that the 3 week liquid phase is not the most fun I've ever had, I know that you'll get through it. I found that being able to have savory liquids along with the sweet protein shakes, really helped. I infused some of the broths with herbs, vegitables and spices. This really helped. Of course, you need to strain them so that they are clear before enjoying them, but I did one that was like 'French Onion Soup', one that was like 'Chicken Soup', on that was like Hot and Sour Soup, another that was like Egg Drop Soup... Again, they were all strained clear, but having things that weren't sweet and didn't taste like dishwater... which is what I think plain broth tasts like... really helped me.

By the way, I think most of us tend to lurk before we jump in and join in the forums. I'm looking forward to getting to know you as you make your way on this amazing journey.

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara
