New to NC and need to get back on track...

I recently moved to NC this summer after living in OK for the last 4 years.  We bought the perfect place out in Lillington, a place with 10 1/2 acres and all.  I had wls surgery Sept 2007 and had been doing really good until recently.  In may I got real sick with a perforated ulcer and ended up in ICU for 10 while my husband had been deployed to Iraq...long story short, 4 months later I still have a g-tube and do feedings thru it daily and eat what i can.  They wont take the tube out till my numbers are back up (protein, iron, vitamins, calcium...all that jazz).  The doctor I got assigned on Ft Bragg has me meet with a nutritionist once a month and each month since being here I have also met with the doc and hope that I can get the tube out but she tells me no again.  Am really tired of the tube and i feel like i am doing all the right stuff to get towards getting it out but nothing seems to be working.  I need to get involved with support groups and such here.  Have noticed that since moving here that am starting to feel a little depressed, maybe it is cabin fever or something, but my emotions are completely out of wack and my husband is not someone to talk to about these things.  He is the type of person that the day i was going in for my wls surgery, he thought it was such a minor surgery that he was going to go golfing and that I was going to drive myself back from the hospital afterward...he didnt realize it was major surgery and hadnt paid attention to anything i had told him about it...

My problem now is that im out here in NC now, dont know anyone and feel at a loss about so many things...I dont even know where to begin...

I guess basically am looking for a support group to attend and things to do and have no idea where to start....

thanks

((((Soulwrtr)))),

Welcome to NC and to this forum. I hope that you will find the support and friendship you are looking for here. I'm sorry to hear that you have had such a difficult time, but hope that things will get better soon.

I host a fairly active and large support group in Raleigh. I know that it's quite a drive from Lillington, but we have folks who drive in from all over the state and you are most welcome to join for any of our in person support groups. (To get information about the in person support group, go to www.meetup.com/nc-wls.) In the meantime, I hope that you will keep coming back here to get and give support

I think that you are right, that many people who have not walked this road, just don't know what it's like.

Please let me know if there is anything that I can do.

Warmly,

Barbara
