Pre-Op Full Liquid Diets...
Hi all! I am new to this forum, so please forgive if this topic has been discussed in the past. My surgeon recommended a 2 1/2 to 3 week Pre-Op liquid diet, so I am on day 3 of 18 at this point. What have you all found that works well? I have been trying broths, strained soups, and of course, the protein shakes/drinks. Any other "filling" suggestions? Can you have Cream of Chicken soups? Can you use yogurt to blend your smoothies? I just want to be as "right" as I can :) Thanks for any input!
When is your pre op appt?? Are you having surgery at Frye or Catawba?? Usually Becky and Jock recommend 10 days of liquids. You can have sugar free popscicles, Slim fast shakes, or atkins shakes. You can have chicken broth, jello, and V8 juice.
The strained soups have a lot of carbs in them. You could probable do the strained soups until day 10.

My pre op appt is tomorrow, the 23rd. I started full liquids 5 days ago, and will be on full liquids for a total of 18 days. Dr. Hata recommended that for me since my BMI is so high (64.1).
I am having surgery at Frye and plan to have the laparoscopic RNY. I'm just trying to take it day by day. Have been straining soups to get different flavored broth. My mom is concerned about how much sodium I'm getting, so I called Meredith and was told not to worry about that too much right now. I figure I'm drinking enough water to kind of balance the sodium.
I live in Asheville, also :) Thanks for your input!

I wish you all the best. The full liquid portion will be the toughest, but you can do it!!! Liquid tends to get boring, but I added the durkee fried onions and sliced green onions to my broth to add flavor, just make sure that you do not eat either of the onions. It adds flavor, and yes with the fried onions it does add fat, but if after you simmer your broth just place it in the fridge and then skim the fat off once it has "set up" and then just reheat your broth. Also the site Baiaratrc eating has protein drinks and soups. Yes they are pricey, but very helpful. I LOVE the Itilian cappachino coffee drinik, 20g of protein. only 12 come in a case so they go fast. What is sad is they were just on sale, and it is the shipping charges that are crazy.
