I posted this on the main site but did not get any answers, can my NC folks help?

I had severe water retention and ankle swelling prior to surgery, no thyroid issues or any other issues, have been tested.  It usually occurs a week prior to my period and lasts for the week of my period, then it disappears.  As you can well imagine, it is very frustrating because I do not lose any weight during this time which means I only lose for 2 weeks and then stay the same for 2 weeks.  Has anyone else ever had this problem?  Is it related to not drinking enough?  Is their something I can do or take to reduce this water retention?  I am not sure if I am allowed to take anything after the surgery.  Thanks for any input.

I know this can be a sign of a protein def, but it sounds like it may be hormonal in your case.

Have you had your protein levels checked?

Like Tessy, I think that it sounds hormonal and I would suggest that you talk with your surgeon and your GYN or PCP. Your surgeon can let you know if there are any meds you should avoid and your PCP or GYN can probably help you with identifying and managing the cause of the retention.
