If you could just sit and ask a bariatric surgeon questions what would you ask?

We are going to have the pleasure of having one of the nation's leading bariatric surgeons come to an upcoming support group. Dr. Eric DeMaria will be a guest speaker at the October 16, 2010 Support Group meeting in Raleigh. Of course he can't answer questions related to any one person's personal medical condition, but if you had to ability to ask some questions what would you want to ask? I don't think it matters what surgery you have had or are thinking about having, nor does it matter where you are in journey. I'll bet it will be interesting to see what people want to know and what he has to say.

I'd love to know what questions you might have.

BTW... If you want to attend the meeting, just go to www.meetup.com/nc-wls to RSVP.

Do you match eating behaviors and lifestyle habits with types of surgery for patients? What surgery is best for overeaters, emotional eaters, crash dieters? And how mush do you encourage mental/pshco therapy for people to prepare for the run of emotions?

Does he have his own practice now? I am not in the loop. Is he taking patients for after care? I am seeing so much weight gain in RNYers 2 to 5 years out, are the bariatric surgeons aware or concerned?

Dr. DeMaria is working on finalizing his new 'home,' but I understand that he is looking forward to staying here in the area. We can ask him about if he will be accepting patients for aftercare when he comes, but one thing I do know is that it is long term WLS patient care that is his passion, so it wouldn't surprise me. I also know that he is very aware of and concerned about regain issues and again it's something that he's interested in.
