Hi everyone. Well here is my problem or dilemma, whatever u wanna call it lol. For the very longest time I have put everyone else in front of me. I would do everything for my kids when I have the extra money and I would always be on the back burner. Well, I wanna do something nice for myself for a change. Before I had surgery I would straighten my hair and it was no problem at all and I wouldn't think twice about it. I wanna get my hair straightened cause I mean, come on, I really do deserve to pamper myself once in a while right? The advice I need is, its been well, well over a year since I had my surgery, which was in April of last year. Is it still too early for me to get a relaxer done? My hair is a hot mess lol. It is sticking out EVERYWHERE and so frizzy and curly till I just wanna shave it all off and go bald lol. I love how I look now, well everything but my hair and nails. Oh and I wanna get this done tomorrow while my kids are at school. I want some me time. I dont wanna sound selfish but I really really do believe I deserve it! I have worked my butt off (Literally lol) the past 18 months and I feel like I deserve a reward for it. I also want to have my nails done. I bite them all the time so I don't know if there is any hope for my nails lol. Anyways, you guys know how much I really love your advice so PLEASE someone help me out before tomorrow. I dont wanna do something wrong and get a relaxer and my hair fall out or something. Ok love u guys and thanks in advance. Oh and by the way, i am down to 237!!! I cant believe over a year ago I was almost at 500 pounds and look at me NOW!!!!

You should run, not walk to the nearest hairdresser and have your hair done. The only reason that people are told not to color or other wise chemically treat their hair right after surgery is that many women are prone to some level of hair loss post op (men seem to be lucky and not have a post op problem with hair loss). Chemical treatments, such as perming and relaxing tend to cause breakage and therefore the 'perception' of hairloss... the folicle is still there, but the hairshaft breaks off. So the thought is that if you are gong to suffer some level of hairloss, it is better not to stress the hair that is left and risk breakage with chemical treatments. All of that said, I had some moderate hair loss, but I didn't skip a beat when it came time to coloring my hair. I'd rather have few dark strands than more grey ones ;-) LOL. At any rate, you are well past the hairloss point and I would hazard to guess that you have already experienced regrowth by this time, so by all means 'run don't walk' to your hairdresser and have your hair styled as you like.

Absolutely get the hair done and treat yourself to a mani-pedi too if you can.
