I just recently moved to New Bern, NC and just found out I am prego!!! I am very excited, but my hubby's job's insurance has not kicked in, plus me with a now pre-existing condition (it happened before he got the job) I am going to need to get medicaid. I know I will probably end up being some ob/gyn's guiney pig because of my wls, but I am not sure I am completely comfortable with that. If I have to, I don't have a choice, but does anyone out there know of an ob/gyn in the New Bern (eastern NC) area that has some experience with post-wls pregnancy and acepts medicaid? Thanks all!!

I don't know how helpful this is, but I go to the Eastern Carolina Women's Center in New Bern:
801 McCarthy Boulevard
(252) 633-3942
There are many OB/GYNs in that office.  Dr. Patterson is my OB/GYN there.  He is doing my hysterectomy soon.  He tells me he's done many hysterectomies on gastric bypass patients.  I've never had a child, so I don't know what his or his collegues' experience is with pregancy in a WLS patient.  I don't know about whether or not they accept Medicaid either, so sorry I can't help you there.

I can tell you that I LIKE Dr. Patterson a lot.  In fact, I think they're all good in that office, except for maybe Dr. J. Michaelson.  I had him for a consultation several years ago and he was horrible, insensitive and rude to me.  It was years before I would go back there.  Dr. Patterson is wonderful though!  Very sweet.

Eastern Carolina Women's Center doesn't take Medicaid I believe. If you go through the health department, they might send you over there for Ultrasounds or if you turn out to be high risk. Another option is Onslow (Jacksonville). Their women center takes medicaid. My friend went through them because of the New Bern issues. I don't know what their experience is with WLS patients but I'm sure that you could call both offices and ask questions. Etiher way, congratulations and good luck!!
