Hello all,

I had RNY on July 2nd.  I am not able to tolerate any artificial protein.......been a MISERABLE few weeks so far.  I lost 32 lbs in 9 days and even though I am on pureed diet now I am having a very hard time getting in all my protein and liquid.  I am doing some walking but exercising is difficult still as my side is very painful since returning to work yesterday.  I feel defeated and could use some support and input.  Thanks and have a good day.

I don't know who your doctor is or what your eating plan is... but I was on Ensure high protein (8 oz a day) for two weeks... then I ate food... peanut butter, eggs, cheese, yogurt and milk (1/4 cup 4 times a day). I did that for one week... then added fish, quinoa and beans... then week 4 chicken and turkey... week 5 beef and pork.  All serving sizes were 1/4 cup.  I was sooooo tired... but I felt okay... I didn't get my energy bac****il about week 7.  I haven't had a protein shake since week 2.

As far as exercise... I just walked up and down my driveway for at least 3 weeks... I didn't worry too much about the exercise... I figured when I had the energy, I would do it... I just concentrated in the first 6 weeks on healing, figuring out the vitamin regimen and getting used to eating again...

Now I am 3 months out... and walk between 1-2 miles 5 days a week... down 66 pounds, look and feel like a million bucks!  It does get better... I promise.

Take it easy and be easy on yourself.

Jackie,

Please call your Dr's office and let them know what is happening and ask them for support. Dietary programs vary a great deal from one practice to another, especially this early in the game, so I hesitate to offer a great deal in the way of suggested foods. One thing that you might try is Carnation Instant Breakfast w/out sugar mixed with skim or 1% milk. You will get about 14 grams of protein per serving and it comes in a variety of flavors. You can also get the premixed versions.

The pain in your side is most likely due to the incision that was done with a trocar and it will get better. It bothers some much more than others. Be sure to let your Dr. know of your discomfort and ask for some solutions to help you through until everything heals up.

Wishing you a smoother and gentler recovery,

Barbara
