I can't tell you about Dr. Torquati, but I did go through Duke, and a year and a half later I would say I would choose the same program. Keep up with your paperwork, and don't let them slack off in the office. Duke's surgeons are the best at what they do, and to me that was most important-not the office, nurses, or psychologists. Their nutritionists are top-notch also. Stay well educated, I have often referred back to their manual, which is both in paper and on line.
Good Luck and God Bless,
Debbi

I don't have any personal experience with Dr. Torquati, but I do have a large support group in the area and several have used Dr. Torquati and all have had good things to say about him. He is reportedly strict, but knowledgeable, competent and personable. I understand that he is good about explaining what to expect and answering questions.

Like Debbi B., I also had my surgery through Duke, as did my husband. I would use the program again. They do have their challenges, but I think that they provide an exceptional program.

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara

Hi!  I had my surgery by Dr Torquati and am very pleased.  The whole procedure took only 1  hr and 20 mins and I had no complications.   He has been very encouraging each time I've visited with him.   I've lost 130 lbs since the surgery.  I know you are going to be in good hands for your operation.

Dr. Torquati performed my surgery on July 6. Dr. Woo assisted him and my surgery was over in 70 minutes. I had ZERO complications, no gas pains, and I'm doing great! He has one of the strictest post-surgery diet plans that I've seen on this site, but I'm not complaining. I can live 3 weeks on liquids ... cause I have the rest of my life to eat food.

Good luck on your surgery and have great confidence in your surgeon!

Dr Toquati also did my surgery - I had no issues, no gas, little pain.  I have not seen him for my followups and I am a little disappointed in that.  I was pushed off on the attending for my 3 week appt due to a phone conference and Dr Torquati was in Italy for my 3 month appt last week.   I also participated in two of his studies.  I will see him for  the 2nd appt in the study in October.

The Durham Regional Hosp nurses are awesome and I was taken care of - don't worry about that.  They are thorough and professional.

My only complaint about Duke is that I have a very difficult time getting people to return phone calls.  The exception has been Liz,, the dietician - She returns all phone calls quickly - she and Patrick, the other dietician,  are very knowledgeable.

The NP told me on Thursday that they will be getting a new phone system in and that should help immensely.

Good luck to you as you begin this journey!
