LapBand REMOVAL!!

It's official!  I'm having my lapband removed July 9th due to a slip.  My insurance refuses to pay for anything else.  Please pray for me!  Thanks in advance!

I had two slips and erosions and revised to a RNY in 2007. Did they say why they wouldn't revise? I'm so sorry!

My insurance said they only pay for ONE bariatric surgery per lifetime.  We tried to get them to pay for something else, even just to allow the dr to go in and replace the band or readjust the band, but they said they will only pay for removal and they want to see all the operative notes showing that the band was removed.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I'm glad you got the excess weight off and hope that you will be able to keep it off... Please be sure to keep coming here and going to the support group meetings. You are and always will be a bariatric patient. I would also check on the insurance, lapband and main forums to see if there is anyway to fight the removal only vs. revision.

I'm so sorry about this Andrea.  You have done so great with your weight loss.  I pray the removal goes smoothly and that you can maintain your weight without it.  Insurance companies are such a pain in the ^$$ to deal with....

Thanks so much Alice!  I've started to work out like a crazy woman about 2 months ago, because I knew this was coming and I know that exercising is KEY to keeping the weight off!  I'll keep everyone updated here on OH.  I will definitely need all the support I can get.  I feel like an addict coming out of rehab into the real world!!LOL

Andrea - Your positive attitude, coupled with the exercise, I know will make you able to keep this weight off! You've come so far and look so beautiful. For me, if I just stay away from the carbs that helps so much.

As a former band patient who had terrible complications and almost died from the band, I'm glad they are catching it while it's just a slip and not an erosion. That's a blessing. I know it's frightening, but you've been given the chance to already change your eating habits and have a good strong start. I know you'll be successful. I feel it in my gut and in my heart!
