Good Morning!

I have a question.  How much protein is too much protein?  Well now that it's getting warm/hot here, I'm starting to make protein shakes more.  I actually consumed 3 yesterday!  Is there a daily "too much" limit?

Thanks!

I try to aim for 80-100 grams of protein a day and always start my day off with unsweetend soy milk and a scoop of prottein powder.
I have heard somewhere that the body can only digest so much protein.
I only eat greek yogurt which has much more protein than the usual brands.
I read labels like crazy woman and if a serving has only 2 grams of protein I do not bother with it.
One of my lunches I usally have a salad but add low fat cheese, nuts, and cold cuts to up the protein.
Before wls I would say the evening meal would have to have protein, veggie, and starch.
Now I focas for me on protein and veggies.

PS I ate a half of a navel orange the other day OMG i havent had one since before my surgery.
I probally could have eatten it all but I did not want to push the envelope.

Thanks Annie for the reply.  I didn't pay close attention to my intake yesterday.  When I logged it this morning, I was well over my 100 grams of protein for the day.  I actually had a shake for breakfast, ate a chicken breast for lunch, had a shake for my afternoon snack, ate a chicken breast for dinner and had another protein shake for my bedtime snack.  I could have easily used 1 scoop of protein per shake but I've gotten so accustomed to 2 that it didn't dawn on me until I logged and saw I had over 150 grams of protein for the day.  It scared me!

Hi Deb,
I dont think you need to be scared if you have over 150 grams.
Personally I find boosting my protein helps me not to get hungrey (sp)
On my way out thougt I would have a couple OZ's of leftover meat from dinner last night OMG not a happy camper right now.
Something about cold meat sometimes it words sometimes not.

I'm sure that every surgeon's office is different, but the nutritionist at Duke said to aim for 60-80 a day. I have a hard time getting this in, so kudos to you!!! I need to start doing more shakes

Yes, early on I had the same issues.  I got accustomed to having at least 1 shake a day which yields 50 grams of protein.  It fills me up quickly and it's a good treat.

What kind of protein powder do you use?

Most of the time I use Isopure but sometimes I switch it up and buy from a local health store.  There I get something called Matrix or Nectar.  Using two scoops of either yields 50 grams or very close to it.

Yes, there are so many ways to change up the flavor.  I am loving every minute of it!
