New Member to OH. Lap band scheduled for May 5th!

Hello,
This is my first post as a new member. My friend Diane introduced me to OH and so now I'm giving it a try. I'm scheduled to have Lap Band surgery this Wednesday with Dr. John Johnson. I was hoping to find some locals to share the experience with.
I chose WLS for two reasons. 1) To get my life back! I feel like my weight has always held me back from life experiences and opportunities. I'm entering my late 20's and just want.... more!  2) I want to get my health on track. I've been fortunate with my health so far considering I've been over weight since I was 6 yrs old. My blood pressure is elevated and I'm insulant resistant, both of which I'm hoping to reduce with the surgery.
Looking forward to the experience and sharing witth OH members

Welcome to the Boards Jennifer!!! Congratulations and Good Luck on your surgery this week. t looks like your reasons for saving surgery and very good ones and you should have no problems succeeding in them.

Not sure where your closest group would be - I know there's a regular group that meets in the Jacksonville area and another every other month in Greenville. You're probably between the 2 areas. (Not to say you can't get some folks together and start one in your area)

You'll find lots of support and encouragement on this forum as well as others on the OH site. Post often so we can get to know you and follow you on your journey.

- Iris

Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape.

Thank you Iris,
Look at you... down to 213!!!    Thanks for the support. I live in Newport which is closer to Jacksonville. My BFF who also got WLS-RNY lives in J-ville. I'd definatly like to find a group that the both of us can attend.
Thank you again for your kind and encouraging words. Good luck with your continued success.

Hi Jennifer,

Good luck with your surgery!  I'm not "new" necesarilly to OH, but I am only 6.5 weeks post-op RNY.  I love OH and the people on the site!  There is always someone who is willing to encourage you, answer a question, or just share information that will be beneficial to you.

Sending peace and well wishes your way :)

Hey Fran,
Thanks for the well wishes and kind words. Good luck with the progress of you RNY. My BFF just had her RNY  two weeks ago and she's been pleased so far.

Hi Jennifer,

Welcome to the group and congratulations on your upcoming surgery. I have to say that my greatest regret re: my WLS is that I didn't do it sooner.

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara

Welcome Jennifer!  I rememeber first finding OH.  It was like a Godsend.  I asked so many questions and got great advice.  So don't be afraid to ask anything!

I am right with you on both of your reasons for having surgery.  I, too, have been overweight all of my life.  I am the smallest now than I have ever been and it feels great!!!

Good luck to you.  Keep us informed!!!

Hi Jen, and welcome to the board. This will be one of your most valuable tools-other than your band! I'm from Jacksonville and had my band put in-in Concord, which is by Charlotte. I went for followup for almost 2 years, and then THANKFULLY, Carteret surgical started handling lapband patients so I switched. SO much closer!  I think Dr. Johnson is a great Dr. (he does my fills). I had the other guy once, but after being scheduled with Dr. Johnson once, I am now scheduling him all the time.

I haven't looked where you live, but there are support/information get togethers once a month that you are MORE THAN WELCOME to come to and mingle with some of us and ask/share, etc. anything you need. Of course, you don't need to attend a meeting to do that, if something is giving you an issue, just post the question here, and 99% of the time someone will know the answer or can steer you in the right direction. Experience is a great teacher!

If you have any lapband questions or concerns, you can always ask me, I'll tell you what I can!  Best of luck to you on Wednesday!

Nancy
