Thursday check-in
Today is day #4 of my re-commitment. Again, yesterday did not go exactly according to my plan, but it did go a lot better then if I had not made a plan. I have noticed that I need to be aware of my thoughts and movements in the evening when everything is quiet. I think my days are so filled with work and life's demands that when evening comes and the demands are so much less, I am like a fish out of water. I really need to concentrate on enjoying my down time and using it to relax and de-stress. My head keeps saying I'm hungry during these times and I nibble. Although I nibble on healthy foods, I find that I am getting too much of the good things! So with this in mind, I have placed packages of gum throughout my home so when I feel the urge to put something in my mouth, I will have gum available.
For today I will continue with my plan of 6 mini-meals and make sure I get in all my water. I have come to realize that when I am dehydrated, I actually want to eat more and feel very very sluggish. So I have bought several flavored, non-carbonated waters so I will be enticed to drink more than just my minimum.
I have another addiction now, STRAWBERRIES! I have to be careful not to eat more than one serving a day because they cause acid sores in my mouth and throat. I went to the Raleigh farmers market last week and got educated on the different types of berries. I never realized the different varieties and how they differ in their texture, shape and intended sweetness. I purchase a very large basket (large enough to have a handle) and I have eaten them all by myself in less than a week.
Isn't it interesting at how our addictions or impulses have changed since surgery? Although I have changed to healthier options, I still go for the "all or nothing" mentality.
Well I have rambled on enough for now......................
Hope each and everyone of you have a WONDERFUL Thursday!
Hi Carrie,
I think your awareness and working to manage it is and will be the key to your success. My nutritionist mentioned that often we mistake thirst for hunger and that if we can stay hydrated we are much less likely to overindulge. Not because we are filling our pouches with water, but because we are trying to satisfy our need for hydration.
I am still putting one foot in front of the other and that is the best I can do for now. We have an Over 50 support group this evening and it will be nice to see those who are coming. I just love the curried chicken and lentil rice, so I'm looking forward to the food and company.
It's good to have you back again. See you soon,

Today is a different story. I was out of lactose free milk so no protein shake this morning. Guess that means a trip to food lion later this evening. The plan for today looks something like this:
Breakfast #1 : Low sugar oatmeal
Breakfast #2: fage 0% with a handful of fresh strawberries
Lunch : Minced BBQ and coleslaw (homemade with splenda)
Snack: 1/2 Gala apple** & Cheesestick
Dinner: Chicken Salad & Sliced Tomatoes
Late Night Snack: NSA Fudgesicle
** I bought a few apples last weekend at Harris Teeter and they were absolutely beautiful - but they're way to BIG. I know that's a weird thing to complain about but dang. I felt like I was wasting them until I remembered an old buffet trick. Once I've cut the apple and cored it or whatever I'm going to do to it - I put the portion I want to save in a plastic container of Sprite soft drink in the fridge. It stays just as fresh looking as when I first cut it and if the fruit is especially tart it seems to sweeten it just a bit.
Planning a walk at lunch time. Hope the weather continues to cooperate.
Yall have a great day!!

Iris...Thank you for the idea with apple and soda! What timing!
I bought (3) small apples last week but they are huge! I cannot eat a whole apple! I have been slicing it and throwing half away.
That was breakfast this morning. Half in my tummy, the other half is in the trash next to me.
I have 1 apple left and going to the store this evening. Will get some Sprite.
May have to hide it. Hubby LOVES Sprite!
Thanks again for the idea!

He has this new thing now, like a little kid.
He knows whenever I go the store, I buy him something (I have spoiled him rotten). He spoils me rotten by coming outside to greet me no matter what time I get home and he carries all my bags in (I carry a backpack and a laptop daily for work). He stands outside and looks through the store bags to see what I bought him! It could be pouring down raining and he outside looking through the bags for his treat!
I'll stick it in my backpack so I can at least get it in the house!
Thanks for my afternoon giggle!

Good news this morning, my scale read 195 which is my wedding day weight. So that was a bit od excitement. I told my husband I was just like 19years ago but older and things hang a bit different LOL. i think I may try my wedding gown on this weekend just for kicks.
I have another softball tournament to take up my weekend, but am excited my over weight daughter is active and playing a sport. She is actually there hardest hitter. It is unfortunate she is built like her mom, never to be the petite girl.
When is the next Raleigh support meeting? Does anyone ever organize a walk at the lake or any other get together?
Have a great Thursday!!!!!!

Hey Audra!
The wedding weight is a great wow! Slipping into your gown may be a delightful treat!
The next support group meeting is May 15th. Check out our group on meetup.com (NC WLS Meetup Group). Love to meet you!
You will also see some pictures and posts from our past activities. Michel and I walked in the MS walk on last Saturday. We are looking into a cancer walk in June.
I think all of us would love some more physical activities, so feel free to jump and suggest some ideas.
